Hello everyone!

Got a visa trough Diversity visa lottery 2015, my first admission in POE was on septembre 27th 2015.

i spent two weeks in New York City, so didn't had enough time to receive the plastic green card before leaving back to my home county.

in fact my friend who will receive it in his adress didn't receive it till now.

My visa contain this sentence : "upon endorsement serves as temporary i-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year"

and expire on november 25th ,2015. see image below

Yes. Technically, your "visa" no longer exists -- an immigrant visa is a single-use visa. What happened is that the visa automatically turned into an I-551 (green card) valid for one year. So what you actually have in your hand is a green card valid until September 27, 2016. You can use it for all purposes just like any other green card. Don't call it a "visa" as it will just confuse people.

No airline would even airlift you without a VALID visa. So, I think you better make it back before the 25th of November 2015 or you will have to wait until you get your Greencard in hand.

This is completely wrong.

Expiry means you need to come back before that date stated on the visa.

To check the process of your green card, you can simply go to uscis website. You still have time though, but be mindful of the validity of your visa. I hope other members who are more experienced with DV will chime in or correct me if I'm wrong.

Good luck

No, they do not need to "come back" before that date. The validity of the "visa" is irrelevant because the "visa" is already invalid. The expiration date of the visa is completely unrelated to the validity of the I-551 which the visa turned into. The I-551 is valid for one year after entry.

Your immigrant visa was endorsed (stamped) on 27SEP2015, which means you can travel internationally and enter the US without restriction until 26SEP2016.

The date of 25NOV2015 was the date by which you had to have it endorsed (i.e. stamped upon entering the US to activate your residence), which you did.

You're fine.

Thank you'd I much guys for your prompt responses. That make sense hope that airline companies will understand that and know what is I-551.

Is there any way I can track the fabrication of my green card ?

The endorsement is the date you enter. So to confirm the couple of people who got it correct above, yes you can enter after 25 November 2015 as the visa has been endorsed - it is no longer a visa (and don't call it that, it confuses people, especially airline staff) but a temporary green card - which you can use to enter until 26 Sept 2016.

Thank you'd I much guys for your prompt responses. That make sense hope that airline companies will understand that and know what is I-551.

The old way to track the green card (ELIS) doesn't seem to work anymore...

As for the airlines, some employees do, some don't. If you meet one who doesn't, ask to speak to a superior. And whatever you do, don't refer to the "visa".

Thank you SusieQQQ for your confirmation and these valuable information.

I wil not call it a visa anymore...promis e:)

The main reason is that if you tell the airline official it is a visa...they will look at the expiry date on the visa, say it's expired and not want to let you board. Show them the "endorsement" line at the bottom of the visa and just say it is your proof of being a LPR!

Probably a good idea to take a copy of that page with you in case you meet one of the lesser informed airline personnel while using the temporary I551.
