Adult name change while submitting forms for K-1 Fiance Visa?

I could not find any information on this forum. Does anybody know?

I will be submitting the forms to start the K-1 Fiance visa process soon. At the same time, I was in the process of starting an adult name change for me. The adult name change for me (US Citizen) is to change only my last name to that of my step fathers/mothers last name. The process is roughly 4 months long, and is done in the Florida court system.

Will this effect the Fiance Visa filing? Or can I show proof of my last name change before the K-1 interview? Or will the new last name for me not matter to the USCIS?

My gut reaction is that the name change can only complicate things. I suspect it's still possible but is it really worth it while your in the middle of the K-1 process? Is there any reason why you can't postpone the name change?

I could postpone the adult name change ( Just be out $75 at this point) if needed. However, if and when we marry, I would like her last name to be the last name I intend to change to, and not my original last name? I end with a question mark because I know nothing about the subject.

Welcome to the forum.

There is no need to inquire with USCIS. The necessary information is located on page 6 of the Form I-129F instructions:

If either you or the person for whom you are filing is using a name other than that shown on the relevant documents, you must submit copies of the legal documents that made the change, such as a marriage certificate, adoption decree, or court order.

Agree with previous posting. For the sake of clarity (and likely sanity), either complete your name change now, or wait until after the immigration journey. To do so in the middle, will likely confuse and complicate matters needlessly. These immigration processes can be lengthy and confusing enough, without adding another layer of ongoing legal maneuvers on top of it.

YMMV.

Good luck on your immigration journey.
