Passport with visa went back STAPLED?

So, my fiancee finally got her visa in her passport after a long wait, and it arrived as follows:

The embassy sent her a package and stapled to the package was her passport. Yes, they stapled the back cover to her passport to the package. She took out the staple and opened the package. INSIDE was the DO NOT OPEN package, which she did not open, but why on earth would they staple her passport? Now it has two holes in the back. Could this be an issue / considered tampering? Here is a picture:

Worst case scenario they have made your whole passport invalid. You should contact them. Might have to get a new passport and you'll need a new visa. It depends on how harsh they are about passports but usually ones there's holes in your passport it's invalid.

This is insane. Why would the US Embassy send it stapled??? How would I even get a new visa? This is so incredibly messed up.

That's why you need to 1) find out if your passport is still valid and 2) contact the US embassy in case it turns out you need a new passport and visa. They will just take the new passport and glue in a visa and hopefully not staple it again.

If you're lucky your passport is still valid, I think it depends on how big the holes in the passport is and how closely anyone will ever look at it.

I'm distraught. My would the US Embassy do this though? They issued visas before, you would think they would know not to staple it! She is set to come here October 22, so this is terrible

Hopefully it's still valid. I've never experience anyone getting their backside of the passport stapled only something being stapled onto a paper inside the passport. Like I said, check if the passport is still valid.

People working at these embassy's are sometimes clueless and are not trained or educated enough to this type of work.

Also, the back cover of the passport was stapled to the overall package containing the Do Not Open package. So when she removed the staple, there are now two staple size holes on the back cover of the passport. No pages, just the back cover.

Who issues passports in your fiance's home country? She should check with them, they usually know. At least if it's the police or similar.

Staple through a page would not have been an issue, through the front or back could be an issue. Not sure.

Talked to a reputable attorney, she said it would be no issue as long as the passport wasn't damaged like ripped or had water damage. I'll wait to hear back from the embassy.

Don't worry. Mine arrived stapled too. The only thing she doesn't have to open is the sealed package. Don't worry!

Te and Je, was yours stapled on the back cover? Her vida is fine, on page 10 haha, the those two holes in the back cover were just to stick it to the envelope holding the package that she hasn't opened.
