Impossible request from NVC

Almost 30 days ago I mailed the completed packet to the NVC, and was told to wait 30 days for a response of either a request for more information, or an interview date for my wife. I was meticulous in putting the packet together and knew everything was in order.

The problem is now the police records. In Israel, the police department will only send the records directly to the embassy or consulate. When I called to NVC to verify everything before sending, she informed me of this practice before I could even mention it. The woman on the phone told me the NVC is aware of it, but just to be careful I should write an explanation of it in a letter to be included in the packet. I followed this advice, yet yesterday we received an email that we were hoping would be the interview date, yet ended up being a request for more information. The request for the Israeli police documents in the NVC's own instructions states that the police records can only be sent to the embassy or consulate.

This is beyond frustrating as most of you can probably imagine. This is a BLATANT error on their part, and is now costing my wife and I in more ways than one. We have been separated now for many months already, and this is unacceptable. They are of course closed on the weekends so I can't call to see what they say.

Has anyone else had something like this happen? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

This is NVC is a nutshell!!! :ranting:

Can't the Israel police send the police cert to NVC? If not, can you get a letter from the Israel police stating they only send certs to the embassy? You can respond to the checklist by attaching that letter from the Israel police along with a print out of NVC's own instructions and send as answer to the checklist. You might also want to contact the US embassy in Israel via email and attach their answer to the checklist as well.

NVC really really sucks. Believe me, I know. My husband and I have been at NVC for six months now and have been stuck at supervisor review for over 100 days. I usually say to never ever let NVC put a case on supervisor review, as it's such a huge lottery, but in your case, that might be the only way forward, since your reviewer obviously have the idea that you need to send them a police cert.

Uch! Wow I am so sorry to hear that...sounds like a nightmare.

The letter from the Israeli police would be a good idea, except that the NVC themselves know the fact lol. If it wasn't so hard for our life, it would almost be funny. Like I mentioned, in the instructions for what we "left out of the packet" it states that police records can only be sent to the Embassy. Even the lady on the phone at NVC knew it. She assured me it wouldn't be an issue, yet here we are. I am hoping that when they open I will be able to call them and some sort of magical government bureaucracy fairy will have them just say oh, oops, our mistake, and just give us our interview date. I imagine chances of that are low, but a man can dream. The process has been smooth, albeit long, up until this point. We really cant afford time wasting hiccups like this.

Israel is not the only country that does this. So does Japan and Hong Kong and two states in Australia. We also got held up (for an additional month) at NVC because NVC's Australian police report instructions are over three years old and do not reflect current process. All you can do is send them a copy of their own instructions, plus a letter from the Israeli police. Be sure to highlight the applicable lines with a highlighter. They will clear you eventually - and you can have the police report sent directly to the embassy/consulate (as long as you have your case number).

Sorry you are having to go through it. We had to - and it really sucked. Our NVC packages were complete - but the nimrods at NVC couldn't interpret their own instructions correctly.

Try to call them and explain the situation. You'll probably be sent to supervisor review, but it's not a terrible thing because it's a mistake from them. I have seen this happening to a member from Australia a few weeks ago and they sorted it out in 7 days.

Just call them often - I know it's painful, but they usually act faster if we are on top of it. If you feel a NVC representative is not giving you the attention you deserve, call again later and talk to someone else.

I have a few problems with my case - my daughter's case was locked for 15 days due to a system bug, and after my documents were reviewed, I did not get CC because they needed to scan my I-130 petition (I did EP). I was in supervisor review twice. It wasn't exactly fast, but I believe this is something apparently simple for them to fix these days... just call them often so you will not be stuck in a blackhole.

My husband is a Palestinian Jerusalem (Israeli-issued) ID holder. We were actually able to get a print-out of the police certificate and send it along to the NVC when we submitted our paperwork back in July. He did it at the Davidka police station on Yaffa Street in Jerusalem. However, we also went in August and requested it to be sent directly to the US Consulate in Jerusalem, because we know that they only accept it directly from the police themselves (when we did that we went to the Neve Ya'kov police station). In our interview letter, it says they only got a photocopy of the Israeli police certificate and that we should bring the original along with us to the interview. I've already confirmed the Consulate received his criminal register certificate directly from the Israeli police, but we also have the original of the paper we sent to NVC just in case. His interview this Thursday, last Thursday someone from the Consulate called him about some other things his DS-260 that we need to edit, they didn't mention anything about the Israeli police certificate. So I'm sure we're ok on that.

As others have said, I think you should call NVC and explain the situation to the rep, or ask to speak to a supervisor. NVC usually knows about the Consulates who need the police certificate sent directly to them. It must have been a new employee or an oversight on their part. It should be something that could be resolved quickly, though I'm sorry it has delayed you.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone!

So I called, and strangely enough, the case is finished and processed. It is now just awaiting the interview date. Turns out they knew it could only be sent to the consulate, but decided to send a very confusing email. Even the woman on the phone admitted the e-mail gave the wrong impression.

Well, that is a relief at least. Thanks for all your help, and I wish all of you that are still waiting in this process a quick and easy completion!

I am soooo glad they realized their mistake and didn't fault you for this! Too many times I've seen people wait & wait and take the hit for their mistakes and it's not right. Good luck at the next step!
