Timeline

Hey!

Have you guys noticed that people that applied last year had a timeline of approximately 10 months from beginning to end of the application process?! The first time I realized this I completely freaked out, because I was told (and had seen on other timelines) that the process was 3-5 months long.

Look at this two examples, that are exactly in this order, from the timeline in the discussion "Atlanta -N400 Processing."

Sajeed636......|--/--/--.|08/28/14.|08/30/14.|09/05/14.|09/23/14.|01/06/15.|02/01/15.|03/05/15.|04/10/15.|

karah0215......|07/31/15.|--/--/--.|--/--/--.|--/--/--.|08/26/15.|--/--/--.|09/15/15.|10/20/15.|--/--/--.|

One started on 08/2014 and didn't get his interview until 03/2015 - 7 months!

The second started on 08/2015 (based on the eligible date 07/15) and got his interview on 10/20/2015 - less than 3 months!

I am just wondering what the heck happened. Does anyone know what happened from last year to this one to shorten the application time by 5 months? Or was it that last year waiting times were unusually long for some reason? Either way I am soooo happy to be applying now... phew!

PS - Sajeed wasn't out of the ordinary... here is the whole Atlanta timeline so you can see for yourself:

Ok, now I am actually concerned that it is an Atlanta thing only. Is this an Atlanta thing? It makes no sense because I do see a few timelines from last year being about 5 months long. Is Atlanta a hit or miss?! Yikes >______<

I have no clue why this is, considering it took me almost 2 years from start to Interview. I also submitted my petition right after the government shutdown, so that might have been partly to blame.

I think it's just a matter of how far behind each place is....

I was stuck with Nebraska, which I hear is the slowest of them all.

But it's a ticker when you see someone who applied the same time you did for the same VISA get approved and have their interview MONTHS in advance before you.

I assume the OP is talking about N-400. My experience has been that recently it has been talking about 6 months to be done.

If someone won't take a modified oath then it typically would be about 5-6 months. I think in 2013 it was a busy time. Guess sometimes there are a lot of people seeing naturalization.

Then I know nothing about Naturalization XD I haven't bothered to look it up as I have no plans to become a citizen unless it becomes a issue to keep renewing my green card every 10 years.

Yep. I was talking about the N-400. Holy sh*t I hope it takes 4-5 months for me and not a whole year. It'd be insane.

Saddlepatch - I thought the same way you did, until I went on vacation to a country for 8 months and realized that, if I wanted to keep traveling the world, I'd have to go back to the US minimum once every year - and, even then, they could take my residency away at any time for spending too much time away from the country (seriously...)

Given that I have a kid born in the US, and her dad is American, I am not trying to lose my US residency over some traveling... that would make things so so so difficult with custody, visitation, etc... I am also in college for "International Business" so again I *need* to be able to spend time out of the country without risking losing my residency... I figured I might as well become an American already so I don't have to deal with all of this cr*p in the future.
