Jobs in Indiana

Hi everybody, I came here 4 months ago with a bachelors degree in Applied Chemistry from Nigeria with no experience and have not been able to land an interview, I had to start applying for menial jobs just to get outside the house as Iam extremely bored. Please how easy was it for those of you who migrated to Indiana to find jobs. Thanks

I grew up in Indiana and still have a lot of Friends and family up there in Indianapolis it may take time but keep searching on Craigslist and just going out to local businesses with you resume and you will find something. Dont be afraid to just walk in somewhere with your resume leave it with them even if they say they arent hiring so maybe when they are your resume is already there before they post for the job. Indiana is very small town even in Indianapolis it can be heavily weighted on who you know so just get out as much as possible, always keep a few resumes on you just in case you meet someone who may know of a job or walk in somewhere new that has a sign out that they are hiring.

US is not quick to recognize a degree from 3rd world country especially with so many here with US degrees also looking

Best advice is to attend a local college for refresher courses and show US classes on a resume

even a few night time classes

and be sure to mention in a resume all languages you speak as that is what Americans lack / the knowlege of several languages is a definite plus

trying becoming a high school chemistry teacher. Schools are always looking for teachers in the STEM field. I don't know if you are male or not but that is a big advantage: high school male science teacher especially in inner city schools.

You can try to get your food in the door with power plants, look for unionized with good starting pay and once you are in work yourself up

to your field with seniority. Look on job sites like carreerbuilder.com, indeed.com monster etc....Fill applications out online.

the best advice is what tomyka81 gave you.

A bachelor degree in chemistry would not take you far in America in the modern world. Look for entry level teaching jobs in high schools. Even with that most of the school districts in America require a teaching license. So you may search for teaching aide jobs. Being an Aide does not require a license. Once you are hired as an Aide you can then build upon your resume and perhaps further your education in Pharmacy or something within STEM.
