So for the IR1, which form to request a police check do we use? https://www.police.qld.gov.au/corporatedocs/purchase/Police-Certificate-(Australia-Wide-Criminal-History).htmname only or finger prints? According to the embassy website we just need a name only police certificate but on the forums it seems to be mixed opinions. Also since it's suppose to go directly to the consulate, where on the form do we put the case number??

If you are from Queensland, you need the fingerprint report. This is not to satisfy the Consulate, but to satisfy NVC. Go to your local police station and choose the fingerprint report and use the code (I think it is "36" for "working permit"). There will be a place on the form to put your Case Number. Also put the mailing address of the Sydney Consulate on the form. I think we put our case number just under the "US Consulate - Sydney" line in the address.

On your cover letter to NVC, state that you have applied for the fingerprint police report, and that because you are a resident of Queensland, the Queensland police send your report directly to the Consulate and not to you - so you cannot send it to NVC.

There is still a huge disconnect between the info that NVC thinks you need and the info that the Consulate requires. In order to avoid an RFE, get the fingerprint report. I know it costs more money, but NVC does NOT understand the process, and you will add as much as two more months to your process if they decide to balk.

Good luck!

Already emailed the IV and AOS packets and didn't realize I needed to put anything about being in QLD and the police check going direct to the consulate in the cover letter. So we'll see how that goes. How does NVC know you didn't get a fingerprint report if it gets sent directly to the consulate though?? Would NVC ever even see it?

And look at that link. There are 2 form options: one name only, one name and fingerprints. Nothing about codes on either form and no "field" to put a case number. Guess putting it as part of the mailing address would work.

We didn't use an online form - we used one we got at the Police Station.

NVC may well send you an RFE, unfortunately. If so, you will have to respond with a copy of the website that says that the reports from QLD and NSW are sent directly to the Consulate, and you applied on xx/xx/xxxx.

You may get lucky - and the requirement to present the Police Report will only appear on your P4 letter. NVC has been very inconsistent with this for at least 3-4 years. I've read complaints of people ever since Australia nationalized the fingerprint reporting - and it appears the NVC "instruction manual" harks back to this time, too.

You could send a cover letter to NVC now, as a follow-up, with an explanation about how you have applied for the police report and include the copy of the website. This might keep them from issuing an RFE.

Best of luck!

And I see they have updated the form from when we filled it out....

Use the first address line as: Consulate of the United States - Sydney

And the second: CASE NUMBER: XXX201xxxxxxxxxxxx <rest of address>

Our report took the full estimated time to be generated.

So an update for anyone wondering in the future. NVC has reviewed my case. And there was no issue with not having a letter in my initial packet about the police certificate being sent to the consulate. I never got around to sending the follow up. And we just got a name only police check since that's what the consulate asked for. We did get a checklist but it was for something non related to the police check.

Good for you! You must have had a good case officer at NVC. Wish OUR case officer had been able to read!!!!
