Venezuela apostill delay

We just got assigned a case number this week from NVC. If there are no issues, within a week our case will be forwarded to the consulate in Venezuela.

We have everything ready. However the police record/background check and birth certificate must have official government seal/apostill stamp to officiate the documents for the consulate interview. The government of Venezuela is broken. Apparently, this section government sometimes is open and not open. You can only get this stamp processed in Caracas. You have to make an appointment in order to get this done. The Venezuelan government gave an appointment date for December. However our consulate interview should be in August or September.

Does anyone have any advice on the above. Is there way to get the stamps through perhaps a consultant or an attorney for other proper means?

If we have to delay our interview till December because I create an issue with the application? It won't expire? How do we go about making an interview date for December. I know we have to email the Embassy to get our interview date once it is confirmed it's at the consulate.

When the time comes, I recommend the beneficiary email the embassy and explain the situation.

My wife ran into this same problem, so she emailed the embassy and they told her that the Apostille was not required for her birth certificate. She did have SAREN do something to validate her birth certificate but I'm not sure if even this was required.

Best of luck!

Hi, thank you for your reply.

So a apostell/stamp is not needed for the birth certificate. However, one is needed for the criminal/background document. That is where we are finding a delay.

My wife didn't have to get the Apostille on the police certificate either.

Hey hi......?? Wow OK. It's the email from the embassy when we inquired was that we needed it and other people had informed us of the same as well. We found a lawyer who can get a appointment time very quickly. So we don't want to not have it and take the chance of the case being that we needed it. Well look into it a little bit more I do thank you for your feedback very important information you're sharing and again thank you.

So here's how it worked for us:

When we saw that the case status was "Ready" - meaning the embassy has received it from NVC, my wife (fiancée at the time) emailed immigrantcaracas2@state.gov to request an interview.

They emailed her back with a list of all the required documentation, and told her to respond when she had collected the required documents and was ready for her interview.

So she got everything ready other than the Apostille for the birth certificate, and emailed asking for an interview and explained the situation with Apostille. The embassy responded with a date several weeks out and told her the Apostille wasn't needed. No lawyers involved.

I can forward you the list of requirements that the embassy sent to my wife if you're interested. This was all several months ago so things may have changed - definitely verify everything with the embassy via email before the actual interview!
