I´m a US citizen, but I´ve been living in Spain for the past two years as a resident with my fiance. I´m moving back home and my fiance will follow me after all our papers are approved, but I´m concerned about our application. Taxes. It´s mandatory to prove that I´ve been paying taxes in the states, but I haven´t been in the states, so there´s no way to prove that. How is my residency here in Spain going to affect our application? Does anyone have any advice or knowledge about this particular situation?

Hi, you will need to straighten up your taxes. All Americans world wide must file taxes. If you have not earned any money since you last filed I think you will still have to file? I would contact the Embassy in Madrid and ask them how to catch up. If you made no or very little money while there I don't think it will be a very big problem. Also if you paid taxes in Spain you will get credit for that.

Good luck
