I had my SSN years ago, issued for Work And Travel Program (J1 Visa).

Now I am about to receive green card through DV Lottery.

In this forum I read that I still need to adjust the SSN with the new details of my immigration status. The number will stay same but they will send me a new card.

Did I get it all correct?

I question about all these because, I know that I need SSN, to open bank account and buy sim card for mobile.

So, to make it as quickly as possible I am planning to use the current card & it's number.

Would it cause problem?

Thanks for replies!

You are correct. Your SSN is yours for life. Edited by Shauneg

So do you think I can open a bank account with this card as it remained to me today as it is from previous years? Even, without waiting for the new card...

Card? What is a Social Security Card? jk. It is the number that is important. I have shown my actual card twice in my life. The rest of the time they ask for SSN and I just rattle it off. As long as the number comes back as valid and there is a credit history, there will be no issues. The bank may not care about your credit score, the mobile carrier might and may require a prepaid plan if your credit score is low or does not exist which all depends on what you did when you had the J1 visa.
