Congratulations!

- I think that some time 5 years ago I applied online for a federal reserve position and checked off the status US citizen (because there was no choice for green card holders - only visa holder or US citizen). I think.. I don't recall...

I am very surprised that this didn't come up in the interview? Or did it?

Thank you!

No it didnt come up.

Honestly, I think even if I checked off that US Citizen option (certainly not on purpose) - there was about 1000 applications, and I just wasn't qualified based on the experience. If they liked my resume they would have checked my status with the USCIS and they would have discovered an issue...

Also, I talked to my attorney after all was done and she admitted the officer did seem a little stiff and she felt like he was looking for something - just anything to pick out - but all issues were covered. She also didn’t like the fact that he asked about the second short marriage.. it is not their place to judge!!

Congratulations! Long journey over!

I'm curious... how did you answer N400 Part 11 Question 1?

That's the question about whether or not you ever claimed to be a US citizen.

I'm definitely happy for you but I would have expected that question to be a big red flag to the interviewer.

Thanks JimmyHou,

This is the story.

When I filled out my application I answered this question as No because I never lied to anyone about my status. But later, as I started reviewing chats and discussions about Part 11 Question 1 I got alarmed as I do remember often seeing these things on questionnaires and various applications. When I was entirely new to this country and to the whole system I had no idea how important was it and I honestly didn't know how to reply. When I was filling the form at DMV 7 years ago (I was on J-1, first year in the States) I thought it doesnt matter whether you check off "register to vote" or not because from my home country experience I knew that you have to show your passport when you vote. Since I dont have a US passport I wouldnt be qualified. But if I have a US passport some day I'd be qualified but my will to register for voting is already expressed through this check mark on the driver's licnse application. So may it sounds silly but that's how my 20 year-old foreign mind worked.

But I checked voting registration list in all states I lived and had DL from - no my name.

Same thing with the Federal Reserve. First of all, I don't even remember if the application got to them all the way through since it was a multi-step process: creating profile, filling out the online application, then resume, then cover letter bla bla... I do recall that I was trying to apply and I do recall seeing the immigration status question. But just because there were only two options "Visa holder" and "US Citizen" I might have thought that a permanent resident falls into the category of US Citizens. I didnt even think twice, it wasnt important for me. I know I have a right to live and work in the US, just like a US so I believed that's it. But again - nothing intentional, fraudulent or anything along those lines came to my mind.

Also, the attorney said if I dont remember or not sure that I shouldnt worry about part 11. She suggested to check voting list which I did and that's it.

I do know for sure - every time I received a JUry Duty letter I immediately sent it back explaining I'm not a US citizen (had it in 3 states).
