US Passport wrong place of birth

Hi All,

My sister got her citizenship three months ago, she applied for passport, and she received it today, upon validating the data in it, I found that they put place of birth USA and not her country Morocco, will this be an issue? i know she has to corrected it, problem she has a flight to take this week-end.

Schedule an appointment at passport agency, hopefully there is one close by to get same day replacement. Wrong biographic information is not funny.

I agree with Nancy...

Depending on where your sister is going, she may need to fill out a landing/immigration card. These cards usually ask for place of birth. What will she write? If she's also using her Moroccan passport (to enter Morocco for example) then she will be carrying identification with contradictory information. Getting back into the US shouldn't be a problem, but I don't like extra things to worry about while traveling.

Another thought; the information she entered when she bought her ticket may or may not have had the place of birth on it (I think it's just date of birth but I'm not sure). That information may not match the passport information.

I really don't know if it'll be a problem, but I would prefer to not risk it.

If you see the link above, you'll see that the passport can be corrected for free within 1 year of printing... assuming your sister didn't write down the wrong place of birth on the application... although they should have figured it out since if she had been born in the US she wouldn't have sent in a naturalization certificate!

Your profile says you are in NC... in that case the nearest passport agency will be in Atlanta or DC

If she can, you sister should call and make an appointment at one of these offices. She should be able to get a passport on the same day.

I know someone who was in SC and drove to DC for a passport (there was no same day service in Atlanta at the time). He got to the agency in the morning and picked up his passport at 2 or 3 pm. He flew to Europe the following morning.

I don't know if failing to correct this would cause a problem on this trip, but as I said I wouldn't do it except in a serious emergency.

Nobody would actually know if this is right or wrong. If there is no passport agency around the corner I would take care of it after the trip.
