Congressman's help?

A few months ago my US Congressman's office told me to let them know when my wife's Colombian family get their file #. I assume to send some sort of comfort letter to the embassy. Any opinions?

Far from desperate. They have hosted us (up to 5 people) for the last 3 years during Easter week and we want to return the favor. The $800+ application fee is, shall we say, not insignificant. We want to do everything properly and are looking for advice from others on this site for help.

What Boiler is trying to say is why do you feel you need to get some 'extra help' through a congressman or visa company?

Firstly because you are mistaken in thinking either one will actually have any effect on the whole process.

Secondly because the application process is so simple to do yourself.

Most likely your Us congressman just want to know so it can help keep track of the processing time. I doubt that they are going to send a comfort letter.

A congressman can help if someone has been waiting a lot longer then usual. however it sound like you just thought you could get a congressman involve right away to speed up the process it does not work that way

I am not worried about them filing the application or the wait time. My concern is their success at the end of the interview. I am just seeking help in the process.

So, I guess no one has sought help from elected officials. If nothing can be done, so be it. Thanks.

The forms are not that difficult, not sure how an elected official would know any better.

Congress rep's immigration people can help when immigration petitions are held up beyond normal processing times, but not for tourist visas, sorry.
