Hello Everyone -

I am starting the process of applying for a K-1 Visa. My fiancé is Ecuadorian and I am currently a medical student in Phoenix, AZ. I'd like to have my I-129 filed by the end of this month. Do you all have any main suggestions for me as we start this process or any good resources that you would recommend? I am sure I will have lots of specific questions as the time goes on. Also, Is it reasonable to put together all of the information needed for the I-129 in 2 weeks? I am studying/busy for about 10 hours every day and can commit about 5 hours a week to the process. Let me know what you think!

Thank you so much for your help!

Sincerely,

Jenni

Use the guides at the top of the page here on VJ. They will get you through. Ask all the questions. Follow the guide to the letter and you should have no problems.

I put together our K1 file in about 2 days. It's more than doable, if you have all documents on hand.
For you, that could mean your fiancee needs to send you copies of her passport, her forms etc, but once you get those, it's easy-breezy. (I was actually vising the US when I put the file together, so we both had our documents, but you should be able to put together the file in 2 weeks.)
Just go to the K1 guide on this website and make sure to check every document listed.

Welcome to the forum.

The post just above does not apply to the Guayaquil consulate or to what is necessary to survive the eventual K-1 visa interview there.

In addition to supplying the information that USCIS requires, front-load your I-129F petition with all of the most convincing "evidence of bona fide relationship" that you can collect. USCIS will not care about this, but they'll pass it to the Guayaquil consulate. You should allocate all necessary funds NOW to be on the consular premises when that interview ultimately takes place, and let nothing stop you from being present.

If you have little "face time" with your fiance, hold off on filing the I-129F petition until you have another quality visit.

Edited to add: Things have apparently gotten somewhat better since my contemporaries and I got hosed, but read and heed this thread:

Wow, TBoneTX!

I only read through the first 5 pages of the thread you posted, and I can't believe what you and other people had to go through! I'm sitting here a little bummed that I had my GC interview 2 weeks ago and USCIS still has a hard time locating my file to approve it, but I guess I should just be grateful for the absolutely smooth process we've had so far, and the fact that I'm here with my husband. The rest can wait.

My post definitely doesn't apply. The petition to USCIS itself is easy, but the Guayaquil consulate seems to be a totally different kind of animal.

Count your blessings, truly. Guayaquil has apparently gotten better (new leadership), but I still recommend taking no chances.

Consuls can refuse to accept or consider evidence brought to the interview, but they are not allowed to ignore or discount evidence that they know USCIS has seen.

Here's another horror story, from the petitioner who probably got hosed worse than any of the rest of us:

I am very grateful for the fact that I telecommute, but I would still allocate some vacation time around the interview date to be there in person.

Glad to see another ECU filer. Welcome aboard! (was feeling kinda lonely here).

Maybe the GYE consulate has gotten a bit better (also) due to the economy improving there a bit slightly (until like a few months ago)?

Probably more Ecu filers on here than are obvious. Click on the Ecu flag in your (or my) left sidebar to see if it takes you to the Ecu portal.

The consulate will probably operate independent of domestic economic policies until and unless that egomaniac Correa crashes things so badly that the country becomes "desperately poor" and people resort to fraud to try to get out.

Thank you all so much already for your great advice!! I feel confident that with this website I can hopefully figure everything out! Great to hear the Guayaquil Consulate has gotten better. I will try my best to be there for his interview, its just hard with my schedule and being in school. I am guessing he will interview in December if I can file by the end of this month? That is my hope at least!

Hi, I am in the K1 process I had my NOA1 dated May 27th 2016 I guess I will have an answer by the end of July or probably August.

I have a question? I am planning to go to Ecuador the day of the interview to see if I can get in with him. Do you know if that is possible?

and if that was you experience can you tell me how was it..?? by the way my fiance apply for a tourist visa twice and it was denied hope that's not a problem because this is a different type of visa.

Thanks
