I have filled for AOS and awaiting my EAD (work permit). I only filled two weeks ago, but want to look for work and don't currently understand if there are any implications for doing so. I am wondering if I LOOK/APPLY for employment whilst my AOS and EAD is pending, can I get into trouble for doing so?

Current status: K1 Married filled AOS.

I understand that if somebody for example on the visa waiver program travels and goes looking for work they can can get into trouble for looking for work during that period of time.

You will not get in trouble for applying for employment, but you can not start working until you have EAD in hand

Hi,

We're actually on the same boat. I think we could just look for employment while waiting for EAD but for applying I'm not sure. I know someone who did that but stopped applying since the companies are asking about his EAD and some GC as well. Maybe some VJ's who have these experience can help out. I've also checked out on this link though, it might give you some information about our case - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/512132-entered-under-k1-can-i-work/

I kind of feel that it is a grey area. I may call the NVC or uscis just to be sure. I want to secure employment and jump into something right away once my permit arrives, but don't really want to get caught out because of stringent laws.

Okay then, that's a good idea. Hope to keep us updated. :)

You can look for work, apply and even interview. You just cannot begin to work until you have the EAD. You can also request an expedite of your EAD based on having a job offer, if you get one.
