Police / Criminal Records Due Date

Hello guys,

We are waiting for NOA2 in Venezuela, but I always like to plan on the future... for us, thats the NVC Stage in the next 6 months.

One of the documents my spouse (venezuelan) will need is the police records. Is there a special requisite on that?

More specifically:

1) Does it need to be translated into English by certified translator?

2) Does it have to be particularly stamped/signed by any specific institution, minister, state, to be considered VALID ENOUGH for the NVC?

3) It takes some time to process the police records in this country... If I do it now, will the issue date matter? How "old" can this police record report be?

I found this website on reciprocity:

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/VE.html#marriage-2

It offers very interesting info on the police records for Venezuelans, but still, my doubts are not completely cleared.

I'd appreciate your help!!!

Filed: Timeline

1) It has to be translated (anyone can do it; t he translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the: translation is accurate, and translator is competent to translate).

2) No, it is valid with signature of the appropriate police authority.

3)If it takes time, you should get it now; I don't how "old" it should be at the NVC stage, but at the interview is has to be less than 30 days (in relation to the interview date).

Thank you! That clears most things up for me!

I think I will request the police records now (it's free). Just to be safe in case it takes too much time, at least I will have something.

If it turns out to be quick, then I'll just request another one when the time comes.

It actually depends on the embassy. For example at the UK embassy in London the police certificate (ACPO) is valid for 12 months from the date it was produced. This is stated clearly on the London embassy website.

I would have a look on the your specific embassy's website for information

Wow thanks! Thats very useful!

Does that rule apply for the Police Records sent to the NVC before the interview?

I will search in the Caracas US Embassy and post here what I find for Venezuelans.
