Hello to all!

My sister just get married two months ago with an american citizen. Marriage took place in Romania. Now, she needs to apply for IR-1/CR-1 visa, but we can not handle with this bunch of information and we need some answers.

Her husband ask help for a lawyer in Colorado, but the charge is huge. He ask 350$/per hour.

Can anyone help me with a step by step process?

What is first step? Which is the first thing he needs to do?

How much charge a lawyer for complete all the papers? Can he complete without a lawyer help?

Thank you so much for your help!

Best to all!

$350\hr is too much. You can do the process on your own if you feel comfortable, but if you do decide to get a lawyer, see if you can find one with a set fee (like I did).

IMO, anything more than $2000-$2500.. for the entire case till you get the physical green card in your hands.. is too much.

This site is really helpful once you spend some time on it. Had I known about this site before, I would not have gotten a lawyer.

I went with a lawyer that had different prices for the different requirements...for filling my papers, for example, he asked &800...for the entire process he asks $2600, not bad, in my opinion.

You don't necessarily need a lawyer. Many people do this on their own. If you cannot understand forms, have an AWA conviction, the beneficiary has had prior problems with the law, multiple divorces and/or petitions, or you just don't have the time to spend, then maybe a lawyer is a good idea. Or, if you have a simple case, you can likely do it on your own and save the money.
