Travel to Pakistan on expired GC along with an extension letter

Hi all, does anyone has any experience on traveling to Pakistan on expired green card along with an extension letter? Do Pakistani officials on the airport give hard time? If anyone traveled to Pakistan recently with expired GC w/ an extension letter please post your experience.

why pakistani officals would care about your green card if you have a NICOP then no issues but returing back from Pakistan airline would not accept your exprie GC i would suggest to write an email to Pakistan embassy and check with them also double check with the airline will they allow you to on board or not .

Actually, it is for my wife. She doesn't have a NICOP. She has a valid Pakistani passport and a GC (which is expiring in October) We are thinking to fly in September with Emirates. We are going to Karachi. Not sure if officials at Karachi would not allow us or maybe give hard time while coming back to US...

Well FIA can make 2 points of issues since pakistan FIA is very efficiant and they dont let go any chance to make extra income lol they might ask for NICOP since ur wife is coming back from US

2) while you leave pakistan on immigration visa or work visa you require a emmigant protector on your passport its another issue inwould suggest to check with embassy in details

also Emirates wont allow her back without valid visa or GC please check with Emirates Air Line.

My mother traveled on expired GC multiple times during last year. As long as you have applied for the renewal , you will have to take an infopass appointment in you local uscis office. show them a proof that you have filed for renewal and,they will put a stamp on your passport. You will have no problem at all travelling with that stamp. Officers at Pakistani airport are aware of that stamp and don't ask any questions.

Do I need the stamp or just an extension letter? I thought you need the stamp on your passport when your extension letter expires...

you are fine with the extension letter. My husband traveled several times internationally with his. Why would Pakistan care about your extension letter? The letter is only used upon re-entry into the US, you don't need it to enter Pakistan, it's a US visa

Its not a matter of Entering in Pakistan he need a extension letter or any other official document to show Airlines that he or she is traveling on legal papers, one of my friend he was traveling with his family for EUROPE with Schengen visa and at QATAR airport the airline staff let them wait for 1 hour just to confirm their visa is real or fake lol

I would suggest to double check with the airlines and Pakistan embassy.

I cant say anything about the extension letter. To be on the safe side, i got the stamp on passport as it takes just 30 mins to go their and get it done.

Dont take chances, get an infopass appointment and stamp your wife passport with a one year extension.. the safest approach ..Good Luck.

Get an I 551 stamp in your passport. It will make your life easier when you board the plane from Pakistan. Sometimes they dont understand things as Extension letter..but they will recognize the i 551 stamp in the passport.

Old thread, but responding in case it helps.  A relative did this, and was able to come back to the US.  Not sure if they had any issues though.  COVID may also change things.  There is a link floating around that states that airlines are instructed to no longer refuse boarding to someone with an expired GC.
