Hi everyone,

Today I received an email from the US embassy in Madrid saying that they are missing originals of our marriage certificate and police certificate. We have not yet been granted an interview. The email states that we will get our interview when they receive these original documents.

On the NVC website and checklists the NVC has sent us, it says:

After you collect your financial forms and supporting financial evidence, you and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect civil documents to support your visa application.

  • You must send photocopies of all required civil documents to the NVC.
  • You must submit the originals (or certified copies) and a photocopy of each of your required civil documents to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at the time of your interview.
  • The original civil documents you submit to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate must be issued by an appropriate authority.

Could you share your experience and expertise with us please? Is this normal that the embassy would ask me to send them originals before an interview date has been granted?
