No automated service or "hold" when calling NVC?

My husband received NOA2 Feb. 23rd and his case was sent to DOS on March 3rd. I'd like to start calling to find out if they have the case yet, and if so, can we get our case number. I just called 603-334-0700 and this is all I got, "You've contacted the National Visa Center. Due to an over load in calls, there are no service representatives available to assist you. Please hang up and try again later." I didn't have the option of using an automated system, and didn't have the option to wait on hold. If this is how it works, it seems possible I could perhaps never get through! I've been reading posts from other vj members who say they've waited on hold, and/or had the choice to use an automated system. Now I'm puzzled.

The only way that my husband can to talk to NVC is by calling them at exactly 7:00 AM EST or even at 6:59 AM, they put him on hold for like 30 minutes and then he finally gets to talk to someone, otherwise he never reaches them and all he gets is the message you heard.

so call them at 7:00 am EST and good luck

Received DS-261 / AOS Bill : January 1, 2015
Pay AOS Bill : January 9, 2015
Submit DS-261 : January 7, 2015
Receive IV Bill : January 15, 2015 called after AOS showed paid, they released it overnight)
Pay IV Bill : January 23, 2015
Send IV and AOS: January 29, 2015
Scan date: February 3, 2015
Checklist: March 19, 2015 (only need to send south Africa police report)
Case Complete: June 3, 2015 

EMBASSY: 10 months
Interview appointment letter : December 4, 2015
Interview Date : January 21, 2016 medical wasn't complete
Second interview date: April 4th 2016
Interview Result :APPROVED!!!
Visa Received : 4/13/2016 ( they sent us a email stating our visa was ready for pick up)

State ID: 5/14/2016
Started working!!: 5/25/2016
Finally paid green card fee: 6/24/2016 ( note said we will receive it within 60 days)
Green card in hand: 7/5/2016 10 year green card we done!! 

1st king born: 6/30/2016

April 2017 update: Marriage still going strong, baby boy getting bigger. Life is good

Congratulations. No your case will not be there this soon. You have a wait. So while you are waiting read the NVC Process wiki so you can prepare and know whats going to happen.

I'll start the 5am (mnt time) calling next Tuesday the 17th, two weeks after my hubby's case was sent to them.

Sounds like fun! Okay, so my game plan is to start calling them at 5am (7am Eastern) and preserver on the redials as much as necessary. :)

Hey, I got good news. I didn't call NVC yet but turns out I won't have to! I just got a notice in the mail from NVC, dated March 17th, with my husbands case number. I was totally surprised! It was only sent to them from Nebraska service center 2 weeks ago! :-)

! I've been reading posts from other vj members who say they've waited on hold, and/or had the choice to use an automated system. Now I'm puzzled.

FYI (for you or anyone else who may read this thread). Any posts about anyone using an automated system at the NVC is a post over 3 years old. The NVC used to have an automated system; however, it was discontinued in early 2012.

They still give the number out when they send the notice with the case number. The notice list ways to contact and one of the ways is a twenty-four hour automated number (which is the same as the customer service number). Received our case number January 2016. But yeah when I call, no automated service...

Eighteen years in the US and I still don't understand Velveeta, TV ads for prescription drugs, only getting 2 weeks paid vacation, or why anyone believes anything they see on Fox "News".
