Bank account help!

Not sure if I am posting in the correct place but here goes!

I came to the US on a K1 visa, got married, filed for AOS + EAD last week just waiting on the NOA1s in the mail now. My I-94 has just expired also so I don't know if this is going to cause problems at the bank....

I'm going to Chase to open a bank account tomorrow and my husband called our local branch to ask what documents I need to bring and whoever he spoke to said my passport and SSN which is no problem.

I was just wondering if because my only photo ID is my passport in my maiden name and my SSN is in my married name will it cause problems? Should I take my marriage certificate and health insurance card as extra proof?

I would take them as proof of marriage. Insurance card is irrelevant. Also, what about obtaining a state ID. I am not sure of your state guidelines if I-94 is expired. We used the state ID as proof of residency as well.

Bring a marriage certificate, that will show both names right?

That should be good enough.

I CA banks do require two forms of ID, and SSN isn't condidered one. So, I would bring a passport and any cc or debit card if you have, SSN and the marriage certificate.

When I opened my account with Chase they wanted my State ID and my passport. I've found them to be a good bank so far. The online banking is great.

Pretty sure Louisiana state requires an unexpired visa to get the state ID and I'm kind of in limbo because I'm waiting on my EAD and greencard which is a long way down the road.

I'm going to go to the bank with what I've got and see what happens.

My husband needs to renew his drivers lisence in the next couple of weeks anyway so I'll go along as ask at the OMV exactly what I need for a state ID as the website is pretty vague for non-US citizens, as usual!!

When we went to the bank, they never asked for I-94.

The branch manager demanded Driver's License,

but she doesn't have it, so he asked for another picture ID,

so we showed him her Chinese passport,

but he wanted an official picture ID with the address on it.

We told him, she doesn't have one, and he didn't want to open

the joint account, but I pressed on with the fact that she just came to US

and got married, and after I showed him the marriage certificate which

had the address, he called (presumably) headquarter office,

and got the OK to open the account.

Right now, it's a bit of hassle whenever a US picture ID is needed,

but I expected this until she gets the EAD or green card.

i moved to the US las June too, i only had my passport and the marriage certificate. We opened a joint account in Bank of America.

The lady only asked for my passport since the main account holder was going to be my wife.

Bring your social security card that has your address with maiden name / married name

We opened a chase acct last week, still have not filed AOS. We used her passport, Marriage certificate, and mailing address from Social Security to get a bank account in my wife married name. We had no documents with her married name and address on it at the time...
