We have been in administrative review since October 2014.(K-1). I only see a change of status on the ceac site if I send a status update request. Is that the same for others, and does that mean they are not doing anything?

From reading this site I know the time frame to complete the AR is individual however are there data on the averages for k-1 visas in Nigeria collected?

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the Waivers/AP forum -- topic involves that phase. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

No there's no average because like you stated its individual. I just had a friend come out of a 1 year AP. It takes as long as it takes.

The good news is at least your case is still at the embassy. And no it doesn't mean just because you don;t see status update means they are doing nothing.

Maybe they are waiting for information to come back you never know. You were given a contact sheet by chance?

You just can't compare to others timelines since every situation is different. Hang in there.

Sorry you are in ap, i feel your pain.

I am in ap 10 months now, from march 2014.

Yes, they update the status everytime you send them e-mails or call.

This is a black hole, nothing we can do, just wait and pray.

Ap is a way to torture people that they use.

It is a torture and you cant demand to anybody.

They dont care about feelings people or lives.

A lot of us are in the same boat. I personally have chosen to go the CR1 route and just make sure I have more data to show by the next interview. One thing I have learnt through this whole process is that they have already decided your case before they interview so preparation and providing evidence of bonafide relationship is the key and never stop praying.

Good luck.

Thank you for your support.

We presented pictues, phone logs, emails, and proof of visits from passport stamps, and printouts.

It is not a short/fast relationship

No income issues, or legal problems.

I thought there was a short list of things that the k-1 visa can be denied for.

I tend to think it might be the age/race difference but I might be wrong. Is it up to someone else to decide who we fall in love with?

Age difference can be an issue but AP is different for each case and there is no data or pattern for the time in AP for Lagos.

Is it up to us to decide who we fall in love with ? No, it is up to us to convince the CO that we are bona fide with a quality

front loaded package and additional evidence for the interview, showing the continuous genuine relationship. The burden of proof is on us.

Sometimes they do field investigations or document verification along with other back ground and security checks.

Whenever your case is actively handled such as new information coming in or requests from the petitioner then you will see an update on CEAC.

We were in AP for 16 months, then denied and had to start over with another K1. Ours was a 5 year journey !

He is here now and we are happily married.

AP is a tough place to be stuck in because you don't know the outcome and float in frustration. Understandable. Hang in there !

Thank you.Congrats you are finally together.

I notice some posts about the CEAC site saying that it actually lists Administrative Processing. Our site lists three cases the number followed by 01, 02, and 03. It has ready next to all of them, However the site gives direction on what to do to schedule an interview. He already had an interview and when I write to them they respond with he was told at the interview that he will be notified of the outcome after the AP is complete.

He was given a form asking for his past employer information, some neigbors and friends contact numbers he turned it back in the same day as the interview. No one on the form has been contacted.

I know it is a waiting game,

I know it is a waiting game,

That contact list asked does not mean that anyone on it will be contacted. Rarely are they. It serves different purpose for different reasons.

Your contacts could be watched, followed. You never know.

Here is a good explanation of AP from the notorious VO on nairaland today:

"There are many many many different reasons for administrative processing, so it's hard to say. Sometimes we have cases that require us to ask other agencies for clarification, and it can take a long time for them to do their research and answer us. Sometimes we can see that there was a problem with a very old visa application, and we have to locate and retrieve files from the 1970s and 1980s. Sometimes we have to do on-site investigations, which can take a long time if the site is far away, in a dangerous location, etc. So, yes, we're working on all the files, but if we're waiting to hear from another agency or Nigerian law enforcement or another person, well, we just have to wait for their response."

My fiance was in administrative processing for over 6 mos before we heard from the consulate. Typically we only saw updates when an email inquiry was sent to them. About 4-5 weeks before we were contacted we started seeing frequent(about once or twice a week) updates on our case. Were you given a contact sheet?

Thank you for the information, and happy for you It was just past the four month mark and we have finally started seeing updates a couple of times each week in the last two weeks.

prior to that the only updates were when we sent a mail.

He was given a contact sheet.

We were concerned that we were missing a call from them because he we was having phone/network problems so we gave them alternative ways to contact us today.

From all that we read on this site we are excited that we are finally seeing something happen. 411 days from application 142 days in AP.

Frustrationg but our love is keeping us strong.
