Withdrawing Kiwisaver balance

Hey

So before I moved here from New Zealand, I had an account with Kiwisaver and was making contributions.

The website states that after you have been living outside of New Zealand for 1 year, you are eligible to withdraw your balance. Which I

am trying to do. But I'm not really sure how.

I tried looking on the website, but it just says what documents you need to show you've left the country and resided at an

international address at some point, and to contact your provider.

Does anyone on here have any experience with this?

I'm not at this stage yet, but I called my ANZ provider and also kiwisaver to make sure whether I am able to get my money or not.

They informed me of the process that you just listed and they don't transfer to your bank - they send you a check. :)

Hey, thanks for your response! Didn't think anyone on here would no what I'm talking about lol

Did you contact them from the US or from NZ?

My main issue is, it seems to get anything, I'd have to call them. My phone here doesn't do international calls, and I'm

not sure of another way that would work.

Omg so sorry for the late reply!

I didn't see this until now. I contacted them while I was in Australia (I lived there after my J1 work visa).

Can't you go to your phone provider to allow this? I'm with Sprint and it's so cheap to call Australia and New Zealand.

Hey did you manage to withdraw your kiwis aver balance?

Hi Lucky!

I haven't bothered to do it. My husband doesn't want me to withdraw it since we plan to buy a second home back home (fingers cross since the Auckland market is ridiculous!!!)

Have you contacted them? You get sent a check as long as you prove you have left the country for good. Keep in mind the government kick start contribution of 1K and something else (I can't remember what) will be taken out.

I managed to withdraw my balance, they deposited it into my New Zealand bank account, including the $1000 they contributed.

I found out my provider was ANZ and contacted them using Skype (the 0800 number is the only number that worked which was weird), and I also emailed them as well and they were very helpful.

I had to fill out a form that was on the ANZ website called 'permanent emigration withdrawal' or something along those lines, and mail it to ANZ along with my proof of living outside of New Zealand for more than a year. Had to go to my bank here a couple times to get my evidence notarized because ANZ was really specific about what they needed.

It was a hassle and took a while due to the amount of time it took them to receive and process my documents, but i got there eventually!
