Airline tickets after CR1 visa

Guys I have a question. My wife will have her interview soon for her CR1 visa. I was wondering, can I purchase a round trip plane ticket for her to come to the states instead of a one way, to save money since its much cheaper or will it be a problem when she checks in at the airport. Someone told me that since she will have a American visa coming to America that she will have to show a one way itinerary to avoid immigration problems. Does anyone know if this is true? It is usually not a problem, but sometimes even if you call to cancel the ticket or just don't show up, you still end up on the flight manifest and it looks as if you've left the country - obviously a bad thing when you're supposed to maintain continuous residence in the US to keep the Green Card.

Personally, I paid the extra so I could be sure I wouldn't be accused of leaving the country when I didn't.

Ultimately, it's up to you.

As long as you fly the first segment of your fligh its not a problem.

Make a no show for those flights you dont want to use. Just keep in mind, that all flights after the no show get canceled.

You dont need to call them or reebook. You also dong get any problems for future flights

Would be an incredibly sloppy airline that has a non-boarded much less non-checked-in passenger on manifest. I would think such an airline did not meet US security requirements to be allowed to land/take off at US POEs. So I wouldn't worry about that.

However from my understanding CBP do have sight of the passenger info and can see if you enter on a return ticket. We did that, left again to finalize stuff, then came back on a one-way. My experience and others I have spoken to indicate it is not the first entry that is the issue but the subsequent ones if you do leave and return, as they try to gauge where your actual residence is.

Granted it could be a data entry issue at the CBP, but they get this data from flight manifests to begin with since the introduction of paperless I-94s.
