Passport and name change

So, when I was 10ish, my mom asked me if I wanted a middle name, as they had only given me my first name and last name at the time of my birth. Long story short, she screwed up, and I ended up with two first names. My fiancé and I have filed for the K1, but I want to remove the name that was supposed to be my middle name. I plan on taking his lastname and putting my maiden name as my middle name. Will this be possible to do as a non us citizen in the states at the time after marriage? Or should I go ahead and have it removed here, in Sweden, and then just add my maiden name once we get married at the social security office?

I don't have hard answers but I've participated in name change threads on VisaJourney and learned that some states allow the bride and/or groom to declare a married name right on the marriage certificate, while other ones just list their maiden name. What state do you plan on marrying in?

Also, a middle name isn't different from a first name, if I'm not mistaken. The first and middle names are "given names" and your last name(s) are "surname(s)."

There's a difference here! All of my official documents state Sandra xxx which I find annoying. We plan on marrying in VA. It's probably easier to just have it removed so I can that out of the way. Do you by any chance know if it's enough for my fiancé to call USCIS to change my passport information once I get a new one without my middle name? Thanks!

Does your birth certificate state the additional middle name? That would be why your passport says your middle name as when you apply for a passport they cite the birth certificate. In order to legally alter your name you will need to change your passport. When you are adjusting status they will look at your passport in the maiden name and cite your marriage certificate to support the maiden name change to married surname.

If you are changing your middle name to that of your maiden name - this is different to just a surname due to marriage. You must show a legal identification document listing this as your middle name.

Why not fill out your AOS as first and last name (new married name) without the middle name (leave the middle name field blank - this is allowed as I went for an infopass appointment and they explained I could) until you can legally change your middle name to your maiden name.
