Hi,

My name is Dickson. I met my fiancee over the internet somewhere last year. We lost and reestablished contact in August this year. And have been in contact since. She came over to visit me when i got off this vacation since i am a seafarer and am not usually at home. She was in Ghana for 17 days and we had a really wonderful time together. We have grown to love each other so much and are planning to be together.

My question is, is the one visit enough to apply for the K1 Visa for me and what are the chances of it being approved? Are there any suggestions to help us during the filing of the petition.

Im nervous. I have never applied for a visa and this is our first time.

I can only speak for myself; my fiancé came to visit me only once. I was questioned about it at the interview - I simply stated that we did not have any more vacation time available until the following year. My K-1 Visa was approved at the end of the interview.

Many people here have met with their fiance/ee only once. Only requirement is that it happened within the past 2 years of the petition.

That said, certain countries (or better said nationalities) get a higher level of scrutiny by USCIS.

It would help others if you can post what country are you from (or what nationality you have) as well as your fiancee.

Unless you have some special circunstances (like felonies, divorces, etc)..it would help to give some broad details for others to comment...in most cases it is a DIY process without much problems, except the long waits and an occasional RFE-request for explanation you might get.

While one visit is enough for the minimum requirements, more visits- and longer ones- are better, especially in what is considered a high fraud country like Ghana.

If I were you, I'd arrange another visit for as long a time as you possibly can. Save airline boarding passes and ticket receipts. Take a great many photos of yourselves together, in various situations. Save receipts of places that you stay or visit together (get your names written on them). Include all this information when you file the I-129F petition.

Your case seems simple enough that looks like a DIY. But you need to have good documentation as noted by TBoneTX

Its a great start but as someone said another visit might be better. After you apply it takes another 5-6 months before you actuallly interview at the Accra US Embassy, so you can also visit her or vice versa during that time.

However be prepared for a lot of questions and scrutiny as Ghana is a high fraud for marriage country

My wife and I met only once for two weeks in Singapore. However we submitted a lot of evidence of our relationship such as:

1. Both of our plane ticket stubs.

2. Photos of both of our passport stamps.

3. Receipts of gifts, hotel and dining in Singapore.

4. Pictures of us at well known Singapore attractions and landmarks like the Singapore Flyer.

5. Pictures of us doing various things like swimming, dining, shopping.

In addition to our trip evidence, we also submitted:

6. Emails we wrote each other.

7. Text message histories.

*Note: you, our text and email histories spanned well over a year and a half.

8. Phone bill records.

9. Western Union money transfer records.

10. Gift/mail receipts of things I sent to her parents and her.

So long as you are both free to marry and have met at least once in the past two years you met the qualifications to apply for a K-1. But as mentioned before, Ghana is a high fraud country, so you may wish to arrange another visit or two before applying.

My now husband is from Ghana I,we FILED a K1. I made 2 visits and a 3rd visit to attend the interview with him. We had many red flags, or at least what I thought the embassy considered red flags, and we were approved. Face time can trump the red flags, I believe.
