Hello everyone,

My interview is in 10 days, and I am very worried because I've never had a job in my life. I worked as a freelancer (translations), but I don't have any proof of it, and not sure if I should even mention it at the interview, as I stated in our petition that I don't have a job history!

Is this a potential problem? Anyone had a similar "problem"?

Thank you.

No problem at all. Many girls who had never worked in entire life, dated American men, and their visas were approved. You will be fine.

I've never had a job either. I just finished beauty college. I was approved 2 days ago with no problems. Nobody ever asked about this during the whole process. Don't worry, just relax and good luck on your interview! :)

Thank you, YouAndMeForever,

I've read your interview experience, I too, organized everything in colored paper folders. :)

You're welcome, I'm so glad I could help! :) That's great that you will use colored paper folders too! ;) The interview will be over before you think, time goes very fast once you're there! Just relax, smile and answer all the questions :) Good luck!! (F)

although people here say don't worry, I've read several interview reviews and the questions: "what do you do or where do you work" is fairly common. Be ready to have an explanation for why you have never worked just in case.

K-1 is not a work visa. All they care about is the petitioner's (or co-sponsor's) job and annual salary. If a beneficiary has a job, s/he would have to quit anyway to move to the U.S. after the K-1 visa is approved. True, they might ask questions about what the beneficiary does in life and what s/he plans to do in the U.S. career-wise but it has nothing to do with being approved or not. If having a work history was required to get a K-1 visa then probably barely anybody from the 3rd world countries would make it.

I know what a K1 visa is.

I never said it was required, I just mentioned to be ready for the inquiry just in case. As I mentioned earlier, this question is asked a lot during interviews, sometimes followed up with what do you plan on doing. If the beneficiary, for example, has never worked and mentions to the consul they don't plan on working either, coupled with a petitioner that needs a co-sponsor to pass the income requirements (this is an example), in a high fraud consulate this could be a reason for denial ('public charge') or at least more intense scrutiny. Not all consulates are as easy as yours.

They might well ask about job history and what you intend to do in the US (I was asked something like that and London is an easy embassy) but as long as the petitioner earns enough money it shouldn't be an issue. Plenty of people who haven't worked have been approved. Good luck!
