Vaccination question

I'm preparing myself for the interview and medical exam. I picked up my vaccination record and noticed that I am missing a couple from the required list. Rotavirus and Varicella. I'm not sure how to proceed with this because in reviewing the two vaccines, one is for childhood diarrhoea related and the other is a chickenpox vaccine. I had chicken pox as a child. So, can I even get these as an adult or can they be waived?

Talk to the doctor's office where you will be getting your medical done. In our case, I was told that if vaccines needed to be given they would be done during the appointment at no additional cost.

You can have your blood drawn where you live and your doctor will provide you with the results of the test that will show which antibodies you have. My doctor did so for me, as I have no vaccination records. My doctor gave me the two shots I needed. If you had chickenpox the test will show your immunization. Just bring that paper with you to the medical. Good luck with everything, you are almost done!

oh that's wonderful! I do want to avoid paying anything extra at the appointment. It's already expensive enough as it is!

Influzena (between Nov and March I think... )

Well I have all of those. Working in a hospital, I am required to get my flu vaccine and TB test yearly or face repercussions! Thanks so much!

I had my medical exam in September. Required proof of flu shot, Tdap, and MMR. Also asked me if I had chicken pox as a child (yes).

The only one I was missing was MMR. Paid $70 to get it at an urgent care center (Doctors office wanted to charge $130 on top of the $175 for medical exam).

If you get your immunity tests done and are missing mumps or measles, and are about early 30s, you should be able to get the MMR for free at the health clinic. Everything regarding my immunity was free, from the blood tests to the vaccinations.

Born and living in Toronto (FB-1 visa applicant), I went to my medical exam appt. the doctor will tell you what your missing. He'll give you a list what you need done from your family doctor, in my case, proof of MMR and influenza.

On the same day, I went to my family doctor, got my influenza shot and a blood sample for MMR. After a week, I went back to get my results and got my MMR shot. We both know this isn't free as this is covered by Ohip(taxpayers).

I was born in Guyana and cane to Canada at age 25 , does this means I have to get my record from Guyana. I don't have a family doctor in Canada and I visit the doctors at the walk in clinic .

I've been told that if you don't have a record, you can get a blood test done to test for antibodies. I'm not sure what you should do though regarding the chickenpox

That blood test will show if you have the antibodies from chickenpox. If you haven't had chickenpox the antibodies won't show up.

At that point if you've never had chicken pox then go get the vaccination. You may or may not need to pay for it at a travel or health clinic.

On Dr.Lyndon Mascarehas' website http://www.visadoctor.ca/usa in Toronto for US Immigration (not sure which one you're going through), he does not issue vaccines, but lists what is needed. My husband went to the family Dr. and got his bloodwork done to show immunity to Varicella and updated the rest of them.
