what happens if...?

I soon will be at the stage of needing to book my medical etc. I have received my son vaccination records from health service. But Ireland have no record of mine because I moved here when I was 12 and I can't get them from UK because I haven't lived there in 15years.

What happens if I have no vaccine records? Do I have any other option then to just get all vancines needed?

I know they are not needed for visa itself but I had planned on getting the ones needed here as they would be included in medical.

Thanks in advance for any help given

I imagine you would just have to go to your local doctors and have them all done again... but I'm sure more experienced VJ members will be able to clarify!

Don't go get them done again. I had a problem where my 'little book' of records was destroyed in a flood at my parents' house. They were not on the computer system at my local GP.

I looked up the ones I need to have (they are age specific and you don't need all). I got the flu jab and will get the DT done. I went to a travel clinic and paid for titer tests to be done to prove I have had the MMR and they sent me the laboratory paperwork confirming this.

As a side note, the practice nurse was not willing to redo my vaccines as she felt it was better to have the titer test done than to 'over immunize' me. DT can be done every 5 or 10 years (I forget how often, but haven't had it in the last 10 years) so I have no issue with getting that done, and simply had the flu shot done because I was there and there is a strong likelihood that my medical will fall within flu season.

I have googled titer test, immunity test etc in Dublin and not one link comes up I have even find a travel clinic that does any test that would equal what you are describing. I did also ask the health administrater when ringing for records was there a way of finding out what I have had which she was under the impression there wasn't. If I do any vaccines outside of the medical it will cost me about $50 per injection that on top of the $600 medical I need to have :( :( :(

I will ring my GP on Monday and see what he says about it all. Looking more complicated then I had thought :(

Some of the vaccines are pretty expensive, but the embassy appointed medical centers seem to charge a premium over what you pay elsewhere. As long as you ask for evidence that they have been administered, the medical center will add it to your records.

I paid £100 for the titer test and £12 for the flu shot. I also paid a consultation fee. It's not cheap, but was the lesser of two evils and I felt I'd rather do the running around in this black hole of seemingly endless waiting than have to deal with it when I am ready to go on my visa.

Hopefully your GP can help you out, or at least point you in the right direction.

So vaccinations fom your experience are not included in medical fee? It was my understanding they were. Hopefully the appointed doctor for medical also has a secretary I can ring and ask along with my GP :) thanks for your help

They are most definately not included in the fee. Tbh, there are sites that you can visit that will tell you the likely recommended shots for you/age group. Seek out vaccination clinics or pharmacies before getting them done at your appointment. I've heard of people getting charged in the $100's for extra vaccinations.

After a million phone calls following your advice I don't need my records as such and I will receive boosters on the day of medical all included. Such a weight has been lifted. Thank you all for your help.

There really isn't a reason to not just get them again besides the cost. Why not just do it and not have to worry about it?

thank you for your useful input. i don't remember stating i wasn't going to get them if needed, but please feel free to find someone who would get injections for the sake of it, even if there was a possibility of proving they did not need them.

thank you

I don't remember stating that either? Relax, I was just trying to be helpful. And yes, I would get them for the sake of it if I couldn't prove it. There would be no harm in it. As a matter of fact, most of them you need to get boosters for anyways.

I'm not trying to turn this into an anti-vax debate. I was only suggesting it as an option that might bring peace of mind in the process.
