''City Where You Were Born'' issue!

The form says that I should enter the ''City where you are born''. Now, I'm born in Helsingborg (city in Sweden) but my passport says ''Gustav Adolf'' (it's the parish within Helsingborg where I was born, and you should not list a parish/district etc according to the form) Should I write Helsingborg or should I write what my passport/birth certificate says even though ''Gustav Adolf'' isn't a city? I'm very unsure about this - should I give the right answer or the answer according to my passport?

I agree. What your passport and birth cert say is basically it, it doesn't matter how the US views foreign cities. It's like being born here in NYC, you wouldn't put down NYC as place of birth, you would put the Bronx, or New York, or Queens. As long as your official docs have that name, you will be fine and they won't look at it twice.

This does not constitute legal advice.

what is written in your Birth Certificate?

Wel i do agree you should fill it with whats appears in your passport. but just double check if there is any inconsistency among both documents.

Wow, thank you so much for the quick answers guys! I appreciate it :-)

Both my birth certificate and passport says ''Gustav Adolf''. I'm probably worrying to much about a small issue, but I remember that the US embassy were very picky about everything being 100% correct when I applied for my US student visa.

I just talked to a operator at the US embassy in Sweden and she was also unsure (!), first she said that I should put the city ''Helsingborg'' as ''Gustav Adolf'' isn't a city, but then she changed her mind and said that it's much more logical to put ''Gustav Adolf'' because at the end of the day the embassy doesn't know about Swedish cities, they only care about what is written in my documents.

If it's listed that way even on your birth certificate then list it as Gustav Adolf, even if it isn't necessarily correct. It's the documentation they care about.
