I was trying to find clarification in the past posts....but haven't really found out if my husband has to pay a fee when he picks up his passport and visa if he is approved. we filed cr1. I see no fees at embassy but is there a fee to pick it up later?

my husband saw this and is concerned : USCIS Immigrant Fee - You must pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) after you receive your immigrant visa and before you travel to the United States. Only children who enter the United States under the Orphan or Hague adoption programs, Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants, returning residents (SB-1s), and those issued K visas are exempt from this fee. Select USCIS Immigrant Fee on the USCIS website for more information. Important Notice: USCIS will not issue a Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551 or Green Card) until you have paid the fee.

We strongly encourage you to pay this fee after you receive your immigrant visa packet from the U.S. embassy or consulate abroad (including Canada and Mexico) and before you depart for the United States. Paying before you depart for the United States will ensure that you receive your Permanent Resident Card (commonly referred to as a Green Card) without delay.

However, you can also pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee after you immigrate to the United States. We will send your Green Card to you after you pay the fee. How to Pay the Fee

To pay the $165 fee in USCIS ELIS, you will need an online account. Once you have created your account, you can pay the fee by logging into USCIS ELIS and selecting USCIS Immigrant Fee from the drop-down menu. You will need your Alien Registration Number (A-Number) and U.S. Department of State (DOS) Case ID to pay the fee. See Tips on Finding Your A-Number and DOS Case ID for more information.

You may pay for yourself and any family members who will live with you in the United States. Attorneys, accredited representatives and employers are not authorized to create a USCIS ELIS account on your behalf to pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee. Only you, as the immigrant, may open a USCIS ELIS account and pay the required fee to obtain your Green Card.

Yes. This fee needs to be paid for the green card. The embassy is not involved with green card processing. Here is the direct website regarding the USCIS processing of the POE packet and green card; http://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-immigrant-fee

It states that you can pay once he arrows in the States, but the green card will be delayed until the fee is paid.

The $165 is to produce the green card. That's all the fee that is left. Nothing at the Visa pickup office at all you paid all those fees at NVC.

When he picks up Visa he will be given instructions how to pay. You have within a year to pay the fee. But most pay before they arrived. Not required though so don't stress.
