Copies of Birth Certificate and/OR Passport??? Which one??!

Hey guys.

So, I'm trying to put together the I-130, and part of the instructions state this:

A copy of the intending immigrant's birth certificate and/or passport along with English translation. (If in any language other than English)

What did you include? One, or both?

The only reason this matters is because the translation is expensive...and if I only have to translate one document, that would be better. Also, do we REALLY have to translate the passport page if it's in French?? Geez.

You need to send in both in english if they cant read they won't process your paperwork ,, good luck on your journey

The I-130 doesn't require the birth certificate or passport of the beneficiary, just the petitioner.

Not sure what instructions you are reading, but that requirement is crossed out here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

And though you won't be sending in the BC/passport for the beneficiary, anything you send in another language will have to be translated. Don't pay for the translation if it's expensive. If you know someone who is fluent in both French/whichever language and English, you can have them translate it for you.

You need to read I-130 checklist carefully.

it looks like you're filling an old / or different i-130 form.

As I understand, at the USCIS stage, you don't need to send any birth certificates (only if you are sponsoring a child along with your spouse). The petitioner needs to send proof of citizenship or residency, that is, a copy of the petitioner's passport or green card.

And yes, you must translate all documents to English (if it's that expensive, you can do it yourself/or ask a friend and certify that the translation is best to your/his/her knowledge).

the translation can be a photo copy at the USCIS stage.

But at the I-130 stage only the USC needs to send their birth certificate or entire passport copy.
