RFE response - do they update status online?

Hi VJ members,

I recently sent a Response to RFE for my I-485. The RFE was addressed to me on September 22 and is due on October 30, 2014.

I mailed the RFE letter, along with the evidence they requested (new I-693 since somehow they do not have my medical from K1) to the Columbus Ohio Field Office via USPS Priority Mail. USPS confirmed that it was delivered there by October 10, 2014. However, as of today, there has been no change on the online status (still says RFE was mailed Sept 22), nor have I received a letter saying that they received my Response to RFE.

I am quite anxious as I know the Due date is on October 30, 2014, and if they do not receive the response, my petition will be declined. Do they usually change the online status once receiving an RFE response? Is there any way I can contact the office and know that my case has indeed been received by them?

Just be sure to print out confirmation from USPS's tracking site as proof that it was signed over to their field office. If they somehow lost your documents (as rare as it is) and happen to deny your petition due to no response from you, then you can appeal their decision and submit that proof to let them know that it was something on their end that went wrong.

Lots of people on here are saying they never even got a letter confirming they received their RFE reply. Guess their just lazy sometimes. I submitted my I-130 RFE stuff Sept. 30 and still haven't heard a peep from them, and mine is through DCF. Someone else filing at the same consulate as me has been waiting even a week longer than me without any replies. I've already printed out my DHL delivery stuff, though, so I'm not worried about it.

Thank you! I just printed the USPS confirmation out. I guess I'm just paranoid now. I thought it was rare that they lose your medical from the K1 visa but they seem to have misplaced mine hence the RFE. I do hope that they have it and just didn't update status. I'd hate to receive a letter asking me to leave the country in however many days. This whole process is just way too stressful.

Well like I said, that proof of delivery would be your saving grace if it ever came to that.

And I agree it's too stressful...a simple letter being standard procedure from them would mean less people calling, taking up their time, and inquiring about their petitions when the letter would at least clarify that everything's in order so you can sleep better at night. :/

never got RFE update too...... i went to columbus office, officer said depending on the field office where the case is, they DO or DO NOT update uscis web page. In general he said the web is not accurate.

Also, at the field office I was told more info as for what day my RFE was recieved and where it was redirected.

USCIS does not send any letters as for if they got RFEs.

Your best bet, wait 90 days from RFE was sent, do info pass and ask local USCIS office if your RFE was recieved and what is going on. (Did it myself several times, more or less helpful),

Mine changed to RFE and then to RFE response review about a week after I sent the RFE.

I am reading your post. did you get EAD /AP approved withoutPRFE response receievd? The online status went directly to EAD approved?

My EAD AP was approved last year without any RFEs. I had RFE for a GC itself, status was never changed into RFE review or anything. I did all as USCIS procedures foresee (waited 90 days, went several times to USCIS field office etc. etc.) Result: I got in touch with my congressman regarding RFE and AOS and also wrote to ombudsman, but apparently congressman helped because my GC went into production straight away.
