As the topic says, what does this mean? I just checken out status and it said on sept 29 the alien number had changed and it's on the "initial review" assuming everything's as its supposed to be like?!

How do people know they are in for an RFE before they get the hard copy btw?!

How do people know they are in for an RFE before they get the hard copy btw?! If they have previously given USCIS an email address, they usually receive a brief electronic RFE notice via email.

Good luck.

It means that USCIS has received your paper work and they you have been placed in line to be reviewed. It could take anywhere from 1-10 months but most likely around 5 month before you hear from them again in Texas. Things have been rather slow this year. But you could always get lucky! Some people do!

On your notice you should see a receipt number like SRC########

Use that number to register for free text messages and email updates to your status from USCIS at this page:

If you register to recieve status updates they will send you a text message and or email that you will get an RFE. Unfortunately only the paper copy of the RFE says what was missing from your documents. It takes 3-5 days to receive the hard copy of the RFE in the mail.
