What happens after getting married? How long does it usually take to get your social security number and a work visa? My fiancé and I intend on getting our own apartment after getting married and it would kind of suck if he's the only one paying everything for a while.


Oh.. and how does getting a car work? Can i buy it with my foreign license?

November 16th - Got marriage certificate

November 20th - Married!!! <3
December 9th - AOS package sent

December 18th - NOA's received for all three!!

December 21st - NOA1 hard copy in the mail

Dec 30th - Bio-metrics letter in the mail

Jan 12th, 2016 - Bio-metrics completed!!

Jan 15th - RFIEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feb 23rd - RFIE response mailed back
Feb 26th - RFIE response received
March 8th - EAD/AP APPROVEDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!! (On my birthday too~)

March 16th - Card received in the mail~
May 17th - GREEN CARD APPROVED!!!! NO INTERVIEW NEEDED

May 23rd - NOA approval in the mail

May 25th - Green card in HAAAAAAAAAAAAAND

Future ROC filing date: Feb 16th, 2018

Prepare for him to be paying for everything for a few months.

You can get your ssn about two weeks after you land, get this in your unmarried name in order to not cause issues.

Once you are married you can apply for AOS and at the same time for you EAD and AP.

You will get your EAD usually within 60-90 days.

You can't work until then, and once you get your EAD you can change your ssn to your married name.

It's a lot of waiting and doing nothing whilst your hubby works. This is why they have to earn enough to support you.

Oh and if you are trying to get a flat, bare in mind you have no credit report. You won't exsist until you start building credit, so if you joint apply there is a high chance of denial.

Get a rebuilding credit card and start building your credit.

Edit- not sure about buying a car, but in my case I can't even learn how to drive until I get my EAD... Joy.
