NVC- 60 Day Letter

Hello! I came across this website just a few months ago. My husband & I started our visa journey Aug. 30 2013, as of right now, his case is in the NVC waiting to be reviewed ? they received our civil documents on 07/22/2014 & on the first of Aug. I get this dreadful 60 day letter that just about made me lose it. 43 days have gone by and we have not heard a thing, I want to know if anyone who received this 60 day letter has gotten any kind of notice from NVC? I've been trying to call them but they're line is almost always busy!! ? - oh, I'm a U.S. citizen filing for spouse who lives abroad, we have a lawyer, Just some background info on us. Many people got the same letter, including myself, We finally got case closed on 8/29. Our scan date was 7/15 so you should be hearing something pretty soon. Good Luck

Many people got the same letter, including myself, We finally got case closed on 8/29. Our scan date was 7/15 so you should be hearing something pretty soon. Good Luck

Wow!! That's great news! ? So you just sent in your civil documents one time and everything was correct? No checklist needed? Congratulations! Now you're just waiting on your interview date right? Quick question, what's your category?

I agree, I have found this site very comforting, knowing that I'm not the only one going through this bad experience is helpful and seeing people who actually make it through the whole process gives me hope! Oh man, well for us, our lawyer has made the process very easy, we don't do much other than sign here date there and oh yeah PAY! LOL ? but the process doesn't seem to move along faster with a lawyer, that is q waste of time and money. How much did your lawyer charge? Ours charged 1,500.??

Hi VJ people! I absolutely agree with you all that this website has been very greatful all through out the process knowing you're not alone waiting, knowing we'll get through all these. I received the 60day letter too. Very frustating. Wish they couldve just stick to the 30business days. They received our ds260 july 15 and we're hoping to receive the interview date very soon. Has anyone of you waiting for their interview date and received notice from nvc yet? Since the 60day notice? Thanks!

We paid the Lawyer 1400, just an absolute waste of hard earned money.

We're also waiting on a 7/22 scan for an AOS checklist.

You may want to have a look at the NVC thread where people post regular updates about what scan date NVC is currently working on. Until I saw DeeCSC's post in this thread, I hadn't heard of NVC having reviewed any documents past 7/11 so that was good news. NVC is moving very slowly right now.

Has anyone gotten word on when the NVC will be back on schedule with the normal 20 - 30 day responce time?

We are in the same position as you, waiting on NVC to finish processing and schedule the consular interview. Our final documents were emailed to the NVC on July 15th and July 17th, and we got the letter about the 60 day processing time in early August. My background is that I'm a US-Canadian citizen with a Canadian spouse and 2 dual-citizen US-Canadian children. I grew up in the U.S. and moved to Canada to live with my husband in 2002, and later got my Canadian citizenship. We moved from Canada to the US in late 2013, after starting the I-130 process in May 2013. I naively assumed that our 10 year marriage would count for something and that this process would be over in just a few months based on I-130 processing times in previous years.

It's very frustrating to be stuck like this. At least my husband has been able to visit us for part of this year. But he is now back in Canada waiting, as we weren't successful in getting an extension of stay on his visitor status. USCIS decided he didn't qualify as a visitor, because we have an ongoing immigration visa application, and they said if they gave him lawful visitor status to stay longer, then he might use that time to file an I-485 and become a permanent resident that way. It feels like USCIS is punishing us for something we haven't done and had no intention of doing. At least in Canada, I was allowed to stay with my husband as a visitor while filing for permanent residence.

Besides the long wait, my other source of frustration is that many of our American friends and family believe that there is an easy remedy to this problem, like hiring a lawyer or seeking help from a Congressman or U.S. Senator. They cannot fathom these bureaucratic delays, and they try to come up with solutions that are unfortunately not going to work. I am really tired of being told that I just need to hire a lawyer! We don't have the money to do that, and I seriously doubt a lawyer can do anything to move the process along at this point. I've tried asking both the local congressman and our U.S. Senator for help. Our congressman's office made an inquiry with the congressional liason in late July who said that our documents should be reviewed within 30 days. But then we received the 60 day letter a few days later. Our US Senator's office also "expressed their interest" in our case last week and they were told that it would likely be reviewed around mid-September (60 day mark). There seems to be nothing further they can do to help right now beyond making these inquiries.

Thanks for giving me a chance to vent a little! I'm sure we will all get through this soon... we're trying to stay positive and focus on being very close to the end of a long process.

Hang in there! I've only been dealing with uscis & NVC for a little over a year now but it's been so frustrating, especially knowing we're doing things the RIGHT way and following procedures and all but we're still stuck! Something is definitely wrong with our system if it's taking THIS long to brimg our family home and stay together. Best of luck to everybody! Here's hoping!!

We hired a lawyer initially who asked us for $1,500, my husband was still in the states and I was still here in Romania. He initially told us to have me sign everything and just scan it to my husband who could e-mail it to him. A couple of months later when we were about to make another payment to him for his fee's, he told us that he actually needed me to sign it by hand and mail it to my husband in the U.S. which would take another couple of weeks. It was at this point we decided to do this on our own....and because of this website, we've had no RFE's yet and everything has gone absolutely smooth...so far at least.
