Changing the consular office to Kiev, Astana or Istanbul...

My fiance' is Georgian. We have submitted I-129F stating he will have his interview in Tbilisi consular office. Now we have more thoughts.

First, Tbilisi has been notorious for denials with no reason.

My fiance' is actually working in Kazakhstan now, and probably will be doing that until the time of the interview. So, it makes sense for him to have the interview in the country of residence.

He is a little coward, and he is afraid to go to the interview by himself. He would love if I could accompany him, as it is allowed in some other embassies - in Kiev, for example. By the way, why they don't permit that in all embassies, just in some certain ones? :angry:

The options that we've been considering are Astana (Kazakhstan), Kiev and Instanbul...

Does anybody know how we can possibly use any of them?

Also, does Istanbul and Astana allow petitioners to be present at K-1 visa interview as Kiev does?

Is there the way to change the consular office after the petition submission?

You cannot shop consulates to avoid denials. You can use the Kazak embassy if he is working there legally.

Consulates are "hard" or "easy" depending on the populace that come for interviews. If a lot of fraud comes through there, then there will be a lot of denials. A fraud couple would not get approved in an easy embassy just because it is easy.

Only legally working? How about just staying legally? Say, he came to visit with his brother in Istanbul, where he can stay legally for 3 months without a visa...

Our major goal is actually to be able to go to the interview together.

K-1s in Turkey go through Ankara, not Istanbul. You can see my embassy review I posted. They don't allow fiancées inside generally, but I got invited to interview the next day when they found out I was in Ankara. My fiancé (now husband) was approved on the spot. Just be polite and honest and there should be no complications provided there are no causes for concern.

He is working illegally?

He cannot interview in Turkey being on a tourist visa. No consulate shopping. Many people can go places for three or six months without a visa as tourists, but that doesn't mean that they can interview in any of those places.

You can interview in a country if you are there legally on a long-term visa. If he is a visitor in Kazakh and working illegally, then I don't think that qualifies.

Usually 6 months presence at least and other than a visitor, but the local Consulate will have their rules.

If you have been legally residing in another country, not just legally visiting, then you can interview there. You don't get to pick and choose which country/consulate you want to go interview in/at.

Oh, thank you! I never paid attention to that button. But now I have read all the posts about Tbilisi Embassy and I see - there is nothing to have fear about! Virtually everyone has gotten their K-1 visas. That's so comforting. Thank you again! We'll simply go for Tbilisi then.
