So I'm just curious - In general, do those in favor of giving gay and lesbian adults the right to marriage in all states, also support the idea of giving everyone the right to polygamy? And I mean polygamy between adults....Sister Wives polygamy, not creepy Warren Jeffs Polygamy. And just curious about specific reasons why or why not...

I support everyone's right to marry - gay, lesbian, priests, nuns, and even heterosexuals. In a way, divorce already institutionalized polygamy...

All kidding aside, if you want to have three wives or five husbands, why not? Consenting adults is very much self-explanatory.

On the lighter side again, consider the following scenario: a man has six wives. Three of his wives happen to have two husbands, each of whom has an additional wife. Altogether, there are 26 children in this family.

Question 1: How do they decide how many tax returns to file and who is a dependent of whom?

Question 2: For the purpose of an I-864, what is the size of the household and what is the minimum income required to sponsor another fiance/e?

Question 3: Can you imagine the size of their shopping cart at Costco?

Question 4: Who gets to ride shotgun?

On a positive note, perhaps our kids might actually have to learn math as a result of polygamy...

Yes because what two or more consenting adults do, as long as they don't force others to, witness it, condone it, or fund it is none of anyone else's business. As long as it does not infringe on the civil liberties of others.

We've had this discussion on here before. The two are not comparable since the issues involved are very different. Gay marriage isn't 'out there', so it shouldn't be compared with polygamy, people wanting to marry animals or underage children.

Multiple marriage isn't practical, since it has implications to things like taxation, inheritance and because the sort of people who would go in for it would be Mormons and weird cults. You don't have 'equality' in that situation.

Yeah I wondered that, can the partners be part of more than one marriage at once? If the husband has three wives and one of those wives is also married to another guy, who also has another wife and husband? Seems like it would be a gateway to massive fraud. Edited by Hail Ming!

The problem I have with polygamy is this,

A man cannot treat all of the women equally. Same thing with other religions which allows men to have more than one wife. The men can say all day long they are treating the women equally, but in the end, he will always have one he favors over the other.

The whole premise is inherently dodgy. I have my own opinion why gay marriage is frequently compared with polygamy but it will probably trash the thread. So I'll wait until I'm proved right.
