Hello , I want to share with You this , I had my interview today , everything was Okay , Exept One thing , My fiance does not make enough , she makes about 15 k / years , so we had to use her father as co sponsor , so after all what i did read here on Visajourney , The Co Sponsor just need to make enough for himself , his family and for the foreigne fiance , my fiance's dad make 33 k / years , he is just married , So i thought it would be enough for him , his wife , and me ! but what a bad surprise at the embassy , They told me that everything is Fine but the co sponsor needs to make for 6 if he is single, and for 7 if he is married , cause they count even my fiance and her 3 childs even if her childs live with their dad , so i didn't get my visa cause 3 k / years , 250 dollars per month , Unlucky :crying: they did ask me for another co sponsor who makes enough for me , my fiance ,and her childs ,but they didn't require that the co Sponsor would be a family member as i did read here it would be Anyone , So i have nothing to lose , if anyone can help me he could just send me a PV , Thank you

Gosh I feel the sadness for you, but financial sponsorship is not something that is easily do-able by anyone.

Making enough money to care for both existing and new (sponsored) members is obviously needed,

but here is a "real" complication story that my sister's husband's brother, whom I will call "John Doe"

for short, is going through.

John Doe provided co-sponsorship for his son to bring newly wed oversea wife.

After 2 years or so, and after she got her permanent green card, she is seeking divorce,

and the divorce attorney for John Doe's son is warning John Doe that

because he was a co-sponsor, he could be liable to provide financial support

to his son's (soon to be) ex-wife because she can't speak English and does not

have marketable skills to find a job in US.

It was bad enough to pay for overseas wedding, and go through all the headache

of bringing her, and then go through costly divorce, but groom's father could be

on the hook to provide financial support for many years even after his son's divorce.

This has become a nightmare situation for him as there is no easy way to back out

his financial sponsorship.

I don't know when (and if) the financial sponsorship expires eventually in the future,

but this is something that can only be done by close family and relatives

with clear understanding of the obligation that they are signing up for.

Best wishes.

I think you must have misread, I have never seen it stated that it has to be by a family member, probably the most common scenario for obvious reasons.

So your Fiancee is lining up another sponsor?

Johnim, didn't say that a family member is SHOULD or is REQUIRED to co sponsor. I think he is telling the story of the consequence of co sponsoring for someone.

It is like co- signing for a loan here in the USA for someone. So, i think the advice will be to keep looking and asking for help fro anyone close to you or your fiance who can help. But, Johnim just mentioned the repercussion should something like he said happen when you get here. i will say that, don't give up but also try and understand anyone who decides not to help (it is a huge financial responsibility).

Your co sponsor could be on the hook for divorce cost, fines from taking government welfare assistance, etc

Encourage your fiance to get a new job, even if it is a second job, that will definitely raise his projected annual income.

Good luck

I also think that's the best route if she can find a better job of even a second job to boost the income level.

After all, it's only $3k difference.

What is the income requirement of the sponsor (or where can i look that information up)?

These are questions we have as well. But we are very early into this journey. I'm sorry you didnt get the VISA, and thank you for posting your situation so we can learn more and hopefully benefit from it.

Best wishes.

you said there is no easy way for him to back out, when in actuality there is no way whatsoever for him to get out of the financial responsibility

OP, you might have thought through this already, but just in case you haven't...

sponsorship can be justified with sufficient income, but if that's bit short,

they will consider assets such as bank savings, stock values, real estate property values, etc.

If your fiance or father in-law has about 15K in the bank or other assets, that would be sufficient, and you wouldn't need another co-sponsor.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...

I suggest the petitioner find another sponser and submit a new set of I-134 stuff to your hand, then you submit it to the IV unit.

Make certain she has found a joint sponser that has enough income.

in the last line of your post, back at post #1 - if'n you are, indeed, asking for a human here to be your joint-sponser - hey ! that's not allowed - this type of solicitation. I understand you might be frustrated - but hey !

For a K-1 - it's the duration of the I-94, 90 days.

The OP is chasing a K-1 visa.
