Hi everybody, my fiancee is very busy nowadays and he doesnt have much patience as to being hold on the phone for a long time. I was wondering whether I, as the beneficiary, can call USCIS and inquire if everything is OK , or whether we have any RFE pending. We are approaching our 5 month, and I just want to be pro- active. Thanks

I believe you can.

You, as the beneficiary can call USCIS anytime you like. However, there isn't much you can learn if anything that you cannot learn from checking your case status at: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do

Hopefully you or your partner have signed up for electronic notification anytime your case status changes, which enables you to receive an email when that happens. If you received an RFE it will show on the case status; at least for a while. However, in the unlikely event of an RFE you will need to wait for the hard-copy paperwork to be mailed to the petitioner.

Yes we are signed on to our account. I just read some cases where the petitioner wasnt notified of an RFE. Even didnt receive a hard copy.

The hard copy is required to be sent back with the evidence requested before any further action will be taken on the case.

No. Beneficiary cannot. Is Petitioner's document. Privacy Act o 1974 applies.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

If someone is not paying attention to their mail it might happen, but other than that it's not very likely. What is infinitely more likely is for both the beneficiary and petitioner to get paranoid when there is no change and no word for days, and weeks on end. A phone call to the USCIS can help put your heart at ease that there isn't a problem.

change calling habit?

call in - then punch no further buttons on the phone after the first ring.

IN under 5 minutes, a spanish speaker will come on the line.

let them unwind, then say 'English please' then when they unwind again, the petitioner can ask a question. However, the CSR that answers the phone can only see what you can see online.

Hmmm. It is different from NVC then, isn't it? I was the one who called the NVC to get my case number.

It is truly amazing how archaic their systems are. My guess is they could save millions by going more paperless. Why they can't email the RFE information is ridiculous.

I tried calling a few days ago and was told that my USC fiance had to authorise it so he would need to call and put that authorisation on file to enable them to talk to me .. From reading the above seems to me it varies...

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number

Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere, and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .
I-129F Sent : Jul 28 2014
TSC received: Aug 04 2014
I-129F NOA1 : Aug 06 2014
I-129F NOA2 : Feb 25 2015 (NOA2 copy rcd: Mar 02)

Sent to NVC: Mar 09 / Left NVC Apr 1 / Arr Embassy Apr 7 / Pkt 3 Rcd Apr 15 / Medical Apr 17 / Pkt 3 sent May 1 / Interview May 12

Left NZ May 15
