Hi,

I had my medicals last year in November. Scheduled my appointment and was given a date and time.

Arrived there promptly with my 7 year old. For day one, we were given a talk on what was going to happen. Of course there were people Hoping to travel to various countries. We had our shots, they are a little professional. My daughter was wailing because of the shots (4 in total) and the lady didn't even say a word. I guess the workload is too much. She also had her TB skin test, I got all my recommend shots.

You get a slip with the amount of money you need to pay and you are to make payments at a bank located in village market, then bring the banking slip the next day.Paid about ksh 11000 for me and 8000 for my daughter. I had had my yellow fever shot before and brought the record, I also didn't get varicella coz I had suffered chicken pox before. It was flu season, so we had to get flu shots. So costs will vary from case to case.

Day 2, arrived promptly. Had xray and physical exam. A little waiting here and there but its ok.

They gave me a staamped copy of my medicals and the DVD from the xray. Also read my girl's skin test.

I went home and waited for my interview.

One other thing, if you are using public transportation, its Beyer to access it via the village market. Its a good walk from gigiri bus stop. If you have a car, they do not offer parking, drive all the way to village market and park there, its costly though.

All the best!!

My friends hubby got all of his vacs over the course of the last yr so that way when he went to do his medical he would not have to pay for the shots at the assigned Nairobi docs office because they can be more expensive. When he arrived and showed that he had fulfilled the shots needed, they made him take them all over again and charged him.

That is a real bummer! my goodness they made him take them again?? I just wrote an email to IOM asking them the same questions. I will let you know what they say. From USCIS to NVC and all the phone calls, tracking on-line, on-line forums, forms and applications you would think there would be no bump in this road besides the interview itself. Thanks for letting me know we were going to take chances with doing some of the vaccines outside in order to eat into the overal cost of the medical exam. Wow!

Yeah, all over. So she told me that I should just wait until I get to that stage. I wanted to start to send my husband, but now I am reconsidering. Why spend money when they might make him do them all again. That would be defeating the whole purpose of saving in the first place. Keep me posted on IOM I would love to see their response.

IOM responded to my email saying that the cost is usually estimated which might be less because of certain vaccinations as determined by the doctor. For instance if one had chickenpox before their first birth-day and got the first dose of varicella then that vaccine is not necessary. That got me thinking... now who will start verifying all these stuff. They also said that all the medical procedures are done at their facility because I had asked if there is need to do the X-ray and other vaccinations elsewhere before the medical exams.

Okay so what's the verdict? Who will verify? So if some one goes and have their medical done and says they had there vacs they don't have to repeat? Please keep us posted we are right on your heals.

If you have vaccination records to show that you got some of the vaccines they will document them and maybe only give you the ones that are required like the Measles Mumps and Rubella MMR (since in Kenya we normally get the measles vaccine only), a booster dose for tetanus TDap irrespective of whether you got it or not, Flu vaccine and finally Varicella vaccine if you didn't get chicken pox, if you say you got chicken pox they don't administer it and they don't verify it.
