Hello :)

I´m so glad I finally found this community because I feel I will have a lot to vent in the future and to read the stories of others who are on their way to US.

I´m Veronica from Sweden and I will marry my boyfriend Kyle who lives in Phoenix. I could never have dreamt on finding a american guy but sometimes love hits no matter what the distance is B-)

We discussed living in Sweden but I felt I didnt want to make him leave everything, he has more to leave than I have.

So here we are....

I have a question though. I have read on so many sites but each site seems to say different things. I wonder what I need to bring from Sweden (paperwise) to be allowed to get married to a american? Some say I only need passport (my ex as well who was married to a american woman), some say birthcertificate and a paper showing there are no obstacles from here for me to be able to get married. Does any of you know? Thank you in advance and I hope to see you around here on the community :) / Veronica

2014-05-12: I 129f sent to Dallas lock box

2014-05-21: Noa1, application sent to California Service Center

2014-05-23: Alien registration number was change

2014-06-12: Noa2 by text and email (22 days)

2014-06-16: Noa 2 hardcopy

2014-07-03: E-mail from Embassy with package 3

2014-07-16: Medical exam

2014-08-14: visa interview

2014-08-14: RFE

2014-08-20: RFE sent

2014-09-14: RFE came back in mail

2014-09-25: RFE sent again

2014-10-07: Approved!!!

2014-10-09: visa in hand!

2014-11-13: Daughters crba and us passport in hand

2014-12-09: POE Phoenix

Welcome!

Each county in the US has different laws and requirements for how to marry there. For Phoenix, check this page: Maricopa County marriage license info. It answers your questions on paperwork and identification. I do not see a list of groups of people (e.g., clergy, court officers) who can legally perform the ceremony, but that information will also be important to find.

Have you and your fiance decided which visa path you will take? If not, check out the Guides section, especially the K-1/CR-1 comparison info. Each path has positives and minuses, and one might better fit your situation. If you do the K-1, you will enter the US after the visa is approved, then marry. If you do the CR-1, you will marry before starting the visa process, then live outside the US until it is approved. With both paths, you will likely be able to visit within the confines of the VWP while waiting (see the threads at the top of each visa's forum for info).
