My fiance arrived in the US and we married, now we need to do his daughter's K2. Her mother is still living and so we need to know what papers may be needed for her to release the child to immigrate to the US. We have emailed the Lagos consulate but they have not responded. does anyone have any experianece with this?

We did this. He will need a court-approved and sealed document signed by the mother in person that states he has full custody and that she understands and agrees that he will be moving the child to the United States. Ours also had verbiage that reiterated that this is customary practice when a relationship dissolves (as fathers are typically the custodial parent in Nigeria; rather than mothers). We didn't have any problems at all with this piece of the process.

That is great info. Now where do we get the verbiage, how is it court approved and sealed?? Do we need a lawyer to draw it up and take it thru court? Does the consulate have a template? \it will be a few months yet, they are just now working on transfering the file from South Africa where he interviewed to Lagos for her interview. Thank you so much for the specific info.

Would you share the name of your lawyer? Since they are already familiar with the document needed, we would feel assured it would be solid. Also we have no idea as to the typical cost for this service. I will send a friend request if you would rather answer in private message. Thank you so much. And a few more questions if you don't mind.

Was your husband there for the child's medical and/or interview? Or did someone else take the child?

Is the mother required to attend the interview or just submit the papers?

Which place did you use for the medical for the child and was was the cost?

I need to do this as well. In my case, fiance was not married to child's mother. They just had a child together. Does it still have to be signed and sealed by the court? Can I get the information on the lawyer used? Interview is coming up next week, June 20th. Thanks for your help.

With God, all things are possible.
