I hope I am in the right forum

My fiancé and I will be married next month. There was an emergency that took place that took the funds we saved for the adjustment of status. Is there any type of penalty for not filing the aos right away or can we apply 3 to 4 months after marriage. That is when we will have the funds.

There isn't a penalty for filing late, just understand that you will be out if status from the date your I-94 expires, could theoretically be detained by ICE, and be made to appear in immigration court as a result of this; that's unlikely, but possible.

If you are short of money getting work authorisation strikes me as quite important.

No penalty or time to file requirement. File as soon as possible. Your fiance just can not legally work and if they left the US, then they would need another visa to get back in.
