Just received an email that Form 1-765 ( Work Permit ) Card Document Production has been ordered! Yeah!!!

So the question is, how long do I have to wait before it comes in the mail?

Additionally, can I apply for a Drivers License now or do I have to wait and apply for a Social Security number before going to DMV? Can I get a Drivers License without the number? When you apply for your social security number, how long does it take before you get it in the mail?

Expect the card in 10 business days.

You can probably get a DL, but you have to check the rules for your state.

Probably need a SSN first; that should take another week.

Once the EAD is is production, it usually takes around a week to have them send you a notification that it has been mailed, then dependings on where you're located, 3-5 days to recieve it. So like Harpa said, probably around 10 business days total.

For the state of New Jersey to obtain a DL, you need (from the DMV website):

• At least one Primary ID
• At least one Secondary ID
• Verifiable Social Security Number
• Proof of Address

You go to the Social Security office with your EAD, I-94 and primary ID to apply for a SSN. Once they process it, they verify your information and send you the card in the mail which can take 2-4 weeks since you're applying for an original but probably more like a week in all actuality. I was told by someone at the Social Security office when I went there the other day for something else that you can request a temporary verification print out of your SSN so you can at least apply to jobs, get a license etc but I would confirm with whoever you speak to.

Just received another email this evening - "Your I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS is now ready for interview scheduling. When scheduling is complete, you will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview".

What a day its been! I am Happy but so Anxious!!!
