Question about DS-230 / IV Package Documents

Hello!

I am new to the forums but have been using them to look up answers I have had along the way. Thought it was about time I make an account since I am having more and more questions and cannot find the exact answers I need.

My wife is from Kenya and we were married 1 year ago and started this crazy trip through getting her Visa. So far the longest step has been the approval of our I-130 packet. Now that is done and has been approved. Yay! And we are on our way to the next step. I have a couple questions and any answers would be so greatly appreciated!

1) In the step by step guide on the I-130 I could not find where it lists anything on the DS-230 or IV package. However it is listed in a section called "How to bring your foreign spouse to live in the US". Is it even needed?

2) In 2 seperate sections it lists the need for the Police Certificates which I am sure my wife has. But in one it lists 2 different Police Certificates. One for "Passport Office Police" and the other for "Police Clearance Certificate". Which one do I need? I know she already has the Police Clearance for sure but not the Passport one. And if so, where can she get it?

3) It says that all the documents need to be original/certified copies. But she is still in Kenya. Does that mean for sure that she will need to mail them to me? Or can I just use a copy?

I have read quite a bit in the forums about writing to the NVC when the package is sent and letting them know she will have the documents at the time of interview but I'm a bit confused.

Would like to get this ball rolling as soon as they approve my payments for the AOS.

Once again. Thank you so much to anyone who can help! This whole site has been a lifesave and I'm proud to be a part of the community.

Congratulations on the NOA2 and welcome. Okay here go to the NVC process Wiki has all the updated information for you.

There is no more DS-230 replaced by online submitting of DS-260. Same with DS-261 replaced the DS-3032.

Okay to your questions lets see here.

1) In the step by step guide on the I-130 I could not find where it lists anything on the DS-230 or IV package. However it is listed in a section called "How to bring your foreign spouse to live in the US". Is it even needed? See link above please read he link. And also join the NVC filers thread and follow along to learn the latest. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/488577-nvc-filers-april-2014/page-83

Depends on the country some countries need both some need just Police certificatee or Police report.

3) It says that all the documents need to be original/certified copies. But she is still in Kenya. Does that mean for sure that she will need to mail them to me? Or can I just use a copy? Yes for sure no scan no copies. Sorry

I have read quite a bit in the forums about writing to the NVC when the package is sent and letting them know she will have the documents at the time of interview but I'm a bit confused. Thats only in extreme cases where you can't get the documents to them. And thats after you have exhausted ways to get it to them There's no "we will bring to interview so case complete us". Not quite that easy.

Would like to get this ball rolling as soon as they approve my payments for the AOS. Why ware you waiting for AOS that has nothing to do with your IV package. Two separate paths. Hope you weren't wasting time waiting on that. Have you submitted the DS-261 and paid the IV bill?

Thanks a lot for the quick reply!

Guess I'll have to let her know to mail me the documents. Will she need originals for the interview as well? Or will the packet with the originals be mailed to the consulate so she won't have to worry about it?

Right now I am waiting for the Letter of Employment from my workplace, Also on the payment page at the Department of State I can't pay the IV bill right now. It is showing 'Not Available" and DS-261 still "In Process".

Your welcome. Tell your wife to make photocopies of everything she sends to you to keep for her folder for interview (just in case things get missing). But yes she will have to mail to you.

IV Bill will be invoiced once DS-261 is submitted and accepted by NVC. So you getting close.

An employment letter is optional. If you have paystub that's all you need. Save time and have employment letter for interview.

We only included pay stubs with our AOS package. My husband's pay stubs show his yearly income however.

Feels good knowing everything is coming together. So you say to have the employment letter for the interview. Will we both be doing an interview or just her in Kenya?

Just to add she should remember to ask for the original documents ie marriage cerificate, her birth certificate at the interview. ( NVC mails them with the whole package to theconsulate). The police cert never comes back and its good for her to have a copy of the AOS.

Zairman, Can I please ask a favor for those of us that is right behind you? I ask this because it helps us to keep track of time frame and it encourages us and gives us hope as we follow you. :time: Thank you so much, God be with you and your beautiful wife, hope you are reunited with her soon. I long for the day when I can see my wonderful husband again.
