Hey guys,

So last march I got my conditional permanent residency after my wife and I applied, she is a U.S. citizen. I was told that two years after, so in March 2015, I'd have to re-apply so I can remove the conditions and become a permanent resident. I was looking on this site for the paperwork I need to file, deadlines, and stuff like that but couldn't find anything. I was wondering if someone could hook it up with a link please.

Also, this might be a stupid question, but with a conditional permanent green card, I can leave the country, right? We are planning a trip to South America and maybe Europe, so I just want to make sure I can leave and come back in.

The form is I-751. The instruction will tell you everything you need to know.

Yes, it really did take 9 months. No RFEs.

Oh, and yes, you can travel now. You can also travel the whole time the I-751 is pending. They will send you a letter that extends the GC for one year.

Its hard to believe all I have to do is file one form, in comparison to the million pages I sent in when we first started everything =P

Also, when it says 90 days before your GC expires, did you just count three months? Or did you only count days without holidays and all that good stuff? So for example my green card expires 3/6/15, does that mean I should send the paperwork 12/6/14?

Last question, was there an interview or is there anything you think I should know about the process? I quickly reviewed the form you told me. There's no pics or any of that stuff this time around?

Yeah, it's not too hard if you prepare. You can start gathering evidence now that will show you have a bona fide marriage, joint bank statements, joint taxes, etc. Then when it's time you can copy it all and send it in with the form.

You also need to send in a copy of the GC front and back.

You must apply within the 90 days window before you GC expires. 90 days is less than 3 months in most instances. Sending even a day early will cause them to reject it.

You can have an interview for ROC, but most do not have one. Usually they RFE you first if they are not satisfied and then if it's still not convincing they would do an interview.

The point of it is to check that you are not circumventing immigration rules. It;s another check of your marriage, but nothing to stress about. They do not need passport photos or proof of financials or anything, no. Just proof of a bona fide marriage.

Hey Alonso&Sheryl:

So make sure you check the "Removal of conditions on green card" in this website forum's section. There's literally a c.r.a.p. ton of things that people discuss about this. This forum thread "Adjustment of status from work, student & tourist visas" is more for peeps who are just about to file for AOS. You have done that, so you should not be trying to find all these ROC things in this forum. They are under a different thread. Trust me, that one has more than plenty of info. I've been lurking around there a bit too since we'll be filing for ROC in like 5 months.
