Fiancé (e) or Immigrant Visa

An American citizen may file a petition for a fiance(e) or immigrant visa for a Belarusian fiancé(e) or spouse. Legal permanent residents may not file a fiance(e), but may petition for their spouses to immigrate to the U.S. Immigrant visas for spouses of legal permanent residents are subject to a quota. Visas for spouses of U.S. citizens are not subject to a quota. All fiancé(e) and immigrant visas for Belarusian citizens are processed at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, Poland. If you require additional information, please contact the Immigrant Visa Unit, U.S. Embassy in Warsaw by fax +48-22-504-2088 or by email:publicwrw@state.gov (for Immigrant Visas) or fiancewrw@state.gov (for Fiance Visas). Very long time ago K-1 visas also were interviewed in Warsaw (in 90s if i am not mistaken). As for why Bielorussian visas are done in Warsaw i can only assume that due to political situation in the country, cos Bielorussia is quite closed for such issues....

Thank you, yes I'm a US citizen petitioning my fiance from Belarus. We just needed to know what embassy she would be required to travel to for the interview. she will have to ge a visa for Poland to attend the interview.

Also, I know that the US embassy in Belarus is clossed for any sort of visas except for diploatic visas etc.

You are welcome! Than i guess she will really need to get Polish visa for the interview, but don´t worry i do not think that would be difficult as far as they should have some kind of agreement for such situations. Wish you good luck, if any help needed feel free to contact me.

Interesting, I fisured one could always go to the US embassy in your own contry. I guess I learned a new thing.

This is why it cannot be done in Belarus:

General Information

Due to the decision by Belarusian government in 2008 that the U.S. Embassy in Minsk be compelled to reduce its American staff from 35 diplomats to 5, the Embassy has suspended its visa processing indefinitely. Currently, U.S. Embassy Minsk accepts the following limited categories of nonimmigrant visa applications:

  • Diplomatic visas (A and G Categories),
  • Guest of embassy visitor’s visas (relatives of Belarusian diplomats serving at the Belarusian diplomatic missions in the U.S.),
  • Family & medical emergencies,
  • U.S. Government-sponsored travel and programs,
  • Visa applications of senior citizens (over 70 years old).

Not a bit of the relieve for them, Pony cray5ol.gif, cos Portugal is in the EU so all border crossing in the EU zone does not need any entrance visa for the EU citizents, and Bielorussia is not in the EU.......so for travelling to Poland the girl will need to get Polish visa.....cray5ol.gifcray5ol.gifcray5ol.gif but as i already said, do not consider polish visa will be a big issue to be worried about dancin5hr.gifdancin5hr.gifdancin5hr.gif

Yes, it just complicates things a bit, but we'll get through it. I just returned from Belarus and I know the friction between our countries. I just think it would be so much easier if Kiev was an option especially with the language. I have been in Kiev with her twice as well and we know how to get around better there.

Well, I agree completely with you about countries issues and that Kiev could be better option for visa processing for Bielorissians for sure. But Bielorussia is a nice country with nice people, so politics we keep most of the time out when it comes up to people (Ukrainians and Bielorussians ;) ) As for future interview in Poland need to warn you (based on my experience with Poland, nice, clean, cool country but people especially young do not talk or understand russian anymore, some speak English so she will definetely need to plan everything carefully before going on interview and paying fees in Poland, that would be polish zloty...) Needless to say that knowledge of polish would be a big plus in case of travelling inside the country and while being in Warsaw (plus i guess she already knows all the things i just mentioned if she was there several times) dancin5hr.gif .......if in future any help needed i have polish friends who speak bielorussian and may help around.idea9dv.gifidea9dv.gif I recomeend to cheer up and act coordinated, all will be fine! Good things sometimes need time to happen goofy.gif

Thanks about the friends in Poland. I don't think she speaks Belarusian well at all. Maybe some words, but mainly Russian. I'm worried about her travel there, but I think it will be fine.

About problems between countries I was referring to the US and Belarus and the fact that the US embassy has almost no representative there because of friction in the past :)

My friend is in Warsaw and speaks bielorussian, russian and english, so if any help needed let me know i can ask for help without any problem regarding any issues! Good luck!
