My wife would like to spend a few days of Chinese new year with her family and fly from Ho Chi Minh to America between Feb 16th and the 25th. I would like to pick her up at POE instead of flying all the way over to Vietnam again. If anybody is flying from Ho Chi Minh airport to a POE airport in America at that time and would be willing help my wife threw the airports until she gets to POE it would really help us out.

She has only been in 1 flight and is worried about getting lost at the airports. We plan on buying the tickets soon so if you can help please PM me.

Thanks

Just schedule enough layover especially at the POE (5hrs), and tell her to ask uniformed airline representatives if she needs help and she should be fine. Fly with only one carrier should be helpful because the departure-arrival gates tend to be close to each other. As for the customs, cover any meat or agriculture products in transparent bags and label them in English.

Call it Tet...

Bryon, no need to worry at all. My wife never stepped on an airplane in her entire life til that trip. I guarantee you there'll be some VNese in that plane back to the States. She needs to make friends with one of them and asks for help. You can then book your trip to meet her at the POE and guide her from there.

If she knows to get knowing you, passing the interview, she should be flexible enough to learn along the way.

Edit to add:

You should email her before her trip basic common English phrases and ask her to print them out. Then know the meaning of each phrase, then show whatever applies to the right person, ie. custom officer, airport personnels:

Please point me to the gate of this Flight.....fill in her flight #.....so on so forth. My wife has no trouble communicating via this method.

Just remember, life over there in VN is NOT real! Your money will be worth a LOT less once you get back over here. Back to reality, cowboy!

Thuy swore she could not go alone... After she talked to Kim Hai she realized there was no problem.. I also wrote up directions through the airports in between there and here as well as notes to folks along the way should she need help... she has no idea I will be meeting her at POE (ATL)... She thinks I will be at the end of the trip.. but we will go the last leg together.. She's flying out of HAN and a week earlier if all goes as planned...

shame they aren't going the same time or city.

Print out the airport and gate maps, discuss the customs and immigration procedures your wife will pass through and she should be good! :)
