Hello everyone,

I am new on here and need feedback from anyone familiar with my situation.

I applied for a K1 visa at the U.S. embassy in Paris, where I am from, but didn't have my NVC case # at the time when I sent form ds-2001 notification of applicant readiness back to the embassy; and therefore put my USCIS case # on the form.

I am worried it may be a problem when it comes to processing my case.

Has anyone been through the same situation or knows of anyone who has? Could anyone give me some feedback as to what to do now?

FYI, I tried emailing and calling them, to no avail.

Thank you all for your help.

Stefany.

Because they're two completely different departments of the US government, and they're handling two almost entirely separate things. The USCIS case number is for the petition. The NVC case number is for the visa application. Either one can exist without the other. Although a consulate won't accept an application for a K1 visa without an approved petition, there's nothing preventing a foreigner from applying for one, and many visas don't require a petition of any kind.

Doesn't the US Embassy in Paris send a notice to the applicant when they receive the petition (packet 3), and doesn't the notice have the case number on it? Why would you send a DS-2001 to the consulate before receiving the notice? I know that the consulate in Vietnam won't accept a DS-2001 and DS-230 from an applicant before they've processed the petition into their system and sent the notice. A VJ member recently tried to get a head start on the consulate by preemptively sending the forms to the consulate, and they were rejected.

The thing is........I was in the same situation as well! The NVC in Connecticut was supposed to send our new case number to the US Petitioner, and they never did! If I had not called to check my status, I would have never known this new number existed. I would have put my USCIS number on the forms without thinking twice. That almost happened to my Honey and I.........There was nothing in our Packet 3 from the US Embassy in Paris.......regarding our new number.

Hi... After reading this thread, I'm really confused now, too. I just sent DS-230 Part 1 to the embassy yesterday after I received a notice last week that told me to do so. I didn't put a case number on it. Can they assign the DS-230 Part 1 to our K1-petition now? I didn't get a DS-2001 form with the letter from the embassy either. huh.gif

DS-230 Part 1 form wouldn't have a section to fill in the Case Number. It's the DS-2001 that would ask for this information and this form is part of packet 3. Without this form, there is no way for the consulate to know if your fiance is ready to be interviewed. Packet 4 will not be sent to the beneficiary if DS-2001 is not sent back to them. Call/fax and inquire about this form if they can either send one to you or if you can download the form yourself.

Fiance finally got approved for K-1 visa. It's the happiest day of my life.
